Question: How does one make a picture viewable on free republic?
me ^

Posted on 02/16/2013 9:17:21 AM PST by ReformationFan

I have a tech question: how does one make a jpeg picture link viewable as a picture on free republic? For example, if I want to show this jpeg photo of President Reagan and Mrs. Thatcher:

http://www.donnamoderna.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/media/images/moda/accessori/thatcher/ronald-reagan-e-margaret-thatcher/67684353-1-ita-IT/Ronald-Reagan-e-Margaret-Thatcher.jpg

How can I show the photo itself and not just the link?

Many thanks in advance to whoever can show me how to do this.

The high point of America. But, as likely always happens, the good people (the vast majority) are unable to comprehend, and there accept, just how evil their opponents are.

(consider the following, as seen from the perspective of a German Jew)

“Did us Jews in Germany really think they we be gassed? No, why should we have? It had never happened before (and no, Stalin doesn’t count, as no one knew about it, and it was regarding a backwards enemy, Russia). Us Germans were the most civilized, advanced society, in the world, with no history of mass killings.”

“Then Hitler comes along. Sure he says mean things, but the real problem this Nazi bunch had was that us Jews were still making money, while other Germans suffered greatly. So it was understandable that that this Hitler guy would try to equalize things somewhat, and we supported that goal. We thought he said things that were a bit strong, but he was trying to motivate the people and we all needed motivation back then. We knew he never really meant it, not in Germany.”

“Yes, we did wonder what happened to our relatives after they got on the trains. They were told they were going to better places, and as life became rough for us, we fought each other for those opportunities. But when we didn’t hear back from our relatives, we worried a bit. When we heard rumors of trains going to strange factories with acrid smoke coming out, and leaving empty, we were confused. But we knew nothing terrible could happen, here, in Germany. So we didn’t worry.”

If people wonder why many of us support the Second Amendment, what you see above is exactly why.

The tortoise is represented in delays on the bottom of the chart. Notice the coy smile.

If you use the correct dimensions that the original picture shows then it is NOT distorted. I see you put dimensions of 500 x 300 which is not correct so it is distorted. The orginal picture is 407 x 393.

Yes. You can break out your calculator and calculate new H and W values to scale the picture to any size while maintaining aspect ratio. If you get either the H oe the W wrong you will distort the image.

Or you could specify only the H or only the W and never ever ever post a distorted image, without having to do a hand calculation to maintain aspect ration.

Do feel free to do it the hard way.

If it’s all the same to you, I’ll continue teach the simple bulletproof method.

You are welcome to include any complex and unnecessary steps in whatever you do.

Of course, your method also requires that your source specify both H and W, and not all posted images include that information, leaving you to guess the aspect ration and/or height and or width.

Me? I just post the image, I don’t do calculations, I never accidentally squash or stretch an image, if the image is too big or too small I specify Height=300 (for FR, 300 is about right) typing in 11 characters rather than Height=300 Width=(where did I put that calculator? ah yes, mumble mumble, uh) 372. That’s 21 character in the HTML, plus some number of keystrokes on the calculator, plus the possibility of distortion in the final image.

K.I.S.S.

Incidentally, one of the most useful and slickest little pieces of software I've encountered for capturing miscellaneous images is MWSnap. Incredibly useful! Search for mwsnap and download it. MWSnap lets you designate virtually any screen area for capture (eg; save to your PC) or to copy onto another image. For example, if there's something about a stock chart I wish to point out to someone (in an email, say) I can capture the raw stock chart w/Mwsnap. Save. Now, open Paint and open that saved file. Draw lines, arrows, ovals, text, whatever, inside of Paint (A sort of primitive graphics program, but OK for this purpose. Obviously Photoshop is far superior, but Paint is free) Now save the annotated chart under the same (or a different) name. Now I can either email someone my annotated chart, or, upload it to photobucket if I wish to place my marked-up chart on a forum or here on FR. Pick the [a href=----" thingy and post to FR as detailed in my prior post.

Do a width=500 to reduce your image size at the end of your statement.
