> Ph.D. in medieval history
That’s all you need to know right there.
This article is repleat with references to “Ms. Bruninga-Matteau”.
Ms. Bruninga-Matteau this and Ms. Bruninga-Matteau that.
But no reference to MR. Bruninga-Matteau???
(I think we found the problem here.)
Unless she plans on going to work at the Midevial Manor, she is quite limited in job options..
I stopped reading once I saw the hyphenated name.
Plus, that useless degree pays close to nothing. A Starbucks barista makes close to that amount she claimed. It gives me a tingle up the leg knowing not only my taxes supports these useless liberals but lazy bums as well.
Single mothers with worthless degrees. Blame republicans rather than asking themselves where the problem might be. It is high time to stop subsidizing public universities.
Cutting some 30,000 college students off food stamps was one of the first good things Rick Snyder did in Michigan.
Granholm gave them to every college student. Even millionaire trust fund babies and full scholarship students.
Yeah, if my son came to me and said he wanted that as is major I’d slap him upside the head. Luckily he wants to go for criminal justice. Plenty of future in that.
No one is stopping them from applying for the custodian jobs. Perhaps if they are so smart, they should have gotten degrees in areas for which there will be jobs in the marketplace.
Guess I can blame Jan Brewer for not Fully Funding my life too?
1. Educated Damn Fools.
2. It makes me SO much happier to know that my tax dollars are supporting someone who does not consider herself a ‘welfare queen.’ I’m assuming she’s going to pay me BACK when she lands on her feet again?
3. She only teaches TWO classes a week - why not work another two jobs like me?
4. Welcome to 0bamaville, Sweetheart!
She’s got at best a half-time job!
Find at least another half-time job and stop complaining!
Well, I’d need to meet these guys or know more about them to be sure, but they all sound like decent people who went into this line of work and studied hard because it’s what they wanted to do in life.
Nothing wrong with medieval history. Everyone should have basic history and literature courses—ancient history, medieval, Renaissance, etc., as well as whatever their specialty is. One of our problems today is that no one is taught our history any longer, or where our civilization came from. Erase the past, and brainwash the peons.
The thing is that these guys are being relegated to part-time status with no hope of tenure or decent pay. The permanent faculty who treat them like this probably specialize in gender-bending and mind-washing, and won’t give these guys a chance at tenure because they’re too conservative and insufficiently politically correct.
Why do they have to point out that she’s a “white woman” in the second paragraph? Isn’t that racist?
I guess being a Useful Tool of the Left doesn’t pay what it used to! *SMIRK*
Universities take advantage of the PHd’s and candidates. They are cheap and plentiful and turn a good profit for the schools. There are just too many for any but the best connected to get good academic jobs. The govt helps fuel the glut by granting easy access to loans.
We have first hand experience with this. Our son finished his Phd a year ago..and worked the last year between two schools teaching..poverty wages that he filled in with another consulting job at an NGO to make a bare minimum to survive. In the meantime applying for those illusive Prof’s jobs in the humanities.
He also looked outside academia and was willing to move ANYWHERE. He landed an excellent job outside his field with a good company that recognized his writing and other skills demonstrated by his PHd. It didn’t hurt that he had acquired accounting skills in a part time job. He is now earning far more than a tenured Prof in the humanities at all but the biggest schools.
He recognized that he pursued a dream and not a realistic goal for supporting a family and earning a decent wage.
There are too many liberal arts degrees and too few business and technical degrees.
This tread is just tickling me to no end!
“Mr. Stegall is a graduate student at Florida State University, where he is finishing his dissertation in film studies. At night, after his 3-year-old and 3-month-old children have been put to bed, he grades a stack of composition papers or plugs away at his dissertation. (He’s writing about how Hollywood films portray Vietnam soldiers as psychotic men who return home destroyed by the war.) His wife is starting a two-year, online master’s degree program in criminology offered by Florida State. They receive food stamps, Medicaid, and aid from the Women, Infants, and Children program (known as WIC).”
These people are utterly USELESS!
