There are close to 100 recognized domestic cat breeds and every last one of them descended from wildcats. Some are recognizable just by looking at them. For instance, weve all heard of Persian, Siamese and Burmese cats. Other cats, however, aren't as recognizable, and not nearly as common. Here are some adorable photos of rare cat breeds who may not have crossed your path!

That describes at least two of my three - I love my tuxedo kitties, but I suspect that their family trees were missing a few branches.

No, no, no, Joe. You can’t post a photo like that without some sort of story or explanation. That poor kitty......

Thanks for posting this. We’ve been catless forever. Last one was, wow, could it be 24-25 yrs ago? We’ve had dogs, we’re on our second set, can’t just have one, he/she might be lonely whenever left alone. And now we have a cat, who joined the family about a month. He kind of looks like the Korat. He’s silver gray with yellow-green eyes and a very long tail that has some dark rings around it. A very handsome fellow he is and he can be quite vocal. We’ve been keeping him mostly in one room when not home and as soon as we are home he lets us know he wants out. Meow! Merry Holy Days! :)
