I think that means Hi!
I’d prefer lefse.
1st ChapterIt's the opening of The Sage of Erik the Red, which also recounts Leif's journeys to the New World. If that first paragraph doesn't convince you that Lief Erikson discovered America, what can?Olaf was a warrior king who was called Olaf the White. He was the son of King Ingjald Helgason, Olafsson, Guðröðarsonar, Hálfdanr Whitebone Upland kings.
I don’t think this is allowed. Any and all white guys must be disparaged as evil oppressors and the benefactor of privilege.
So Cal Vikings celebrating here this morning — we thank Leif et al. for coming this way. It’s much warmer here.
Ég sakna ár sem ég eyddi á Íslandi.
flaust þar sem það var í æsku þinni, en missti æsku var á Ítalíu eða Grikklandi gætu hafa séð betri sumur.
My Icelandic is very weak. I lived there 94-99, we still have friends there and hope to return for a visit someday. BEAUTIFUL country, and great people.
Uff Da!
I just did a google translate. The actual snippet in my post is Old Norse, old Norwegian, which is old Icelandic, as I am sure you know. They say folks in Iceland can read the sagas, as Icelandic is very little changed from Old Norse. I knew a couple of girls from Iceland who worked for Iceland Air (when it was still called something like Lofðleiðir) back when I was growing up in Queens. They were not in the least interested in the Middle Ages or the Sagas.
I’ve been working on the phone and emails with a Norwegian supplier the past couple of months, and have (manfully) refrained from using that term. Is it really modern Norwegian?
Leif never has received the credit he deserves as an explorer. History is funny that way....a few events tip one way or another and the consequence is there are more kids named Chris than Leif.
I have a PhD in Medieval History and studied Old Norse and Old English a little when I was in grad school. (I have forgotten most of what I learned). Having said that, if I were young and knew stewardesses from Iceland Air, the sagas would probably not be my main focus of interest.
I’m just saying....
They were sort of cute, but very sallow skinned, almost albino and a little too thin, on the Ann Coulter side. They were also dumb as bricks and just about the only thing they were interested in (that I could tell) was drugs and booze, so we didn’t have much in common. When I was young, there were plenty of interesting and hot Jewish, Italian, German, Irish and just about any other nationality you could think of in New York. Iranian chicks were off limits, but some of them were incredibly hot.
PS: They were not stewardess, they worked behind the ticket counter, you know the folks who assign you the wrong seat and send your luggage to Cleveland when you are flying to Miami.
