Obama Administration Moves to Open Arctic Drilling

In a move to expand America's domestic oil and gas exploration, the Department of the Interior began to reverse a moratorium on offshore drilling by approving Royal Dutch Shell's request to drill exploratory wells in the Arctic Ocean.
TOPICS: Business/Economy; Science
KEYWORDS: alaska; anwr; arctic; energy; methane; opec; petroleum
A small paragraph with a summary of this story, was attached to an article [titled:*Melting Artic opening trade routes, Russia says* in this morning's Hartford Courant*]
The article, I saw is not available on line, nor could I find the paragraph on the Tribune Newspapers site.
It's interesting that we haven't heard much about this drilling elsewhere. At least I haven't.
I have a feeling *Shell* and other investors will be so encumbered by Obama regulations, that any finds they make will not help with reducing our costs at the pump.

If this jerk does start drilling it will immediately be cut off again if (God forbid) he’s re-elected.

It's all smoke and mirrors.
We don't need only 1 permit in the artic, we need 5000 permits all over the USA. This is just the usual nonsense to put out by the Progressive Fascist political machine to give the 0-bot media grounds to claim "see 0 opened up drilling"

Well, notice that they’re opening the field to Royal Dutch Shell run out of the Hague, Netherlands, and not Exxon/Mobil which operates in Texas, Virginia and Canada.
Gotta keep the oil wealth out of the US, you know!

Don't know if it's accurate, but I had read that this was a reversal of a denial that had been given Shell earlier, not a new permit.
The same story I read said that Shell had complied with the environmental regulations that had caused the previous denial.
To: Siena Dreaming
I also read somewhere Shell had spent $2B on this site on the pre-drill exploratory phase.

I have a feeling that we will see a lot of this kind of thing during the election year. Enough to get an uptick in the economy and get the one re-elected. Then watch the country go to H^^l in a handbasket.

Thanks Daffynition.
by approving Royal Dutch Shell's request to drill exploratory wells in the Arctic Ocean
That'll make a nice photo-op during the 2012 summer campaign run -- and after Zero wins re-election, he'll lower the boom on this.
