A Spanish research team, using 3-D reflection seismology, has for the first time mapped the geomorphological features of the Ebro river basin 5 to 6 million years ago. The images obtained show that the surface analysed is today 2.5 or 3 kilometres below the sea bed.
"The results shed light on the way in which the sea level fell during the Messinian (between 5.33 and 6 million years ago), and imply that the subsequent inundation of the river margins happened extremely quickly," says Roger Urgeles, lead author of the study and a researcher at the Department of Marine Geology of the Institute of Sea Sciences (CSIC)...
According to Urgeles, the images obtained show that the Ebro river of six million years ago eroded and penetrated up to 1,300 metres into the continental margin. "The numerical simulations of fluvial transport and drainage evolution show that the Ebro in the Messinian period was similar in size and drainage basin to the Ebro of today,"

"The sea level during this period and in this part of the Mediterranean basin fell by around 1,300 metres," says Urgeles. The results also make it possible to determine the extent of the clastic structures associated with this drop in the sea level. "These structures are of interest to the oil industry, since they can act as a reservoir for hydrocarbons."

This study was based on a 3-D reflection seismology block made available by the oil company British Gas, along with the diagraphs (physical properties of the sediments extracted in a survey drill) of a three kilometre-deep well also made available by the company.

I tend to believe the real research of things like this, but the headline number of years is suspect, because of real contradictory evidence.

I would have said that the Solent remains are said to be 8000 years old, not 6 million. I just like to distinguish between what I know and what I’ve been told!
But yes, that was exactly my point. If it’s said to be stone age, then it would have to be dated in the thousands of years.
1) That’s a massive flood on the thousands of years timescale, backing up the biblical account which has been denied for so long by the anti-Christian left.
2) That is not an isolated area so it would be a worldwide flood.

No, your point was to take one of the links which isn’t directly relevant to this millions of years old Mediterranean dessication. The repeated isolation of and drying out of the Mediterranean isn’t anywhere in the Bible.
The rise of geology led to the undermining of the divine right of kings, and that’s what it was intended to do.
The result however was to categorically reject catastrophism, because it was tied to a few Biblical accounts (the Noachian Flood, the destruction of the Cities of the Plain, and the Ten Plagues; also found are the tipping of the Earth’s axis in the story of the sundial of Ahaz, the destruction of Sennacherib’s army, perhaps a few others).
The reason for the paleontological boundaries is that the strata were laid down by a single (or single set of) catastrophic event(s). This has happened numerous times over the billions of years of Earth’s existence.
