Two respected astronomers go to duel over astronomical event.

Posted on 03/09/2011 6:31:10 AM PST by New Zealender

In the most important professional astronomy forum two respected astronomers duel over astronomical event.

quote ''So you are a chemist and well respected, good that you come here to question my calculations. But instead i have a challenge for you.

You are saying that the event will not be visible at Fatima , i say it will be. If i am right and the event is visible then you will admit you incompetence publicly, and i will do the same if its not visible.

Do you agree?''

Glad to see our best and brightest still quarrel like school kids in a playground.

They could be more adult about it but disagreement is good for science.

It’s better than coming to some so-called consensus. Science is supposed to be adversarial to a certain extent.

Gotta challenge theories and assumptions all the time.

Jeez, sounds like an episode of “Big Bang Theory”, but not as well written.

The reason academic disputes are so bitter is because the stakes are so low.

Except when it comes to "Climate Change" science. That science has been deemed incontrovertible.

Unfortunately, this is more the rule than not. Personal reputation and grant money trump scientific method.

I don’t get why you can only see it in Fatima? Downtown Fatima or Fatima +-50 miles?

Something about local terrain. What in the world is he talking about?
