Open Thread: Post Election Comments and Observations
November 3, 2010 | Me

Posted on 11/03/2010 6:01:31 AM PDT by C19fan

Thought I should start an open threat post-election. Some observations:

1: Christie O'Donnell was a disaster. Despite plenty of money she received less votes than the GOP candidate for the Delaware's sole Congressional seat. I knows it pains me to say this but Rove was right. Angel was another huge disappointment. She recevied less votes than the total GOP vote for the Congressional seats in NV. Lets stop running amateurs who provide plenty of material for the likes of SNL and John Stewart.

Related to (1). Strong conservative candidates with experience and good backgrounds did very well for example, Rubio, Paul, Johnson, Kaisch, Portman and Ayotte. None of those candidates had the baggage like O'Donnell and Angel.

3: The New Yorkifaction of Californis is complete. You could of run 2 cardboard cut outs as the GOP candidates and they would of received the same votes as Whitman and Fiornia. The only thing now is to open the popcorn and watch California really hit bottom. I thank God I now live in Old Virginia instead of CA or NY. At least, three Pelosi-Obama lackes went down.

When are they going to count the absentee ballots in Califonia?

With record numbers of voters using the absentee ballots the results are final until they are counted.

Rove and other GOP bigwigs should have kept their disdain for O’Donnell to themselves. There was no excuse for trashing her and withholding their support the way they did. And Castle was a disgrace.

Let California rot in their own fecal waste. They balanced their last budget with fiscal gimmicks and outright fraud. Meg Whitman was crazy enough to try to help fix the state, and the voters said no. So let them fix their own problems.

In an HONEST election, Sharron Angle would have won!

I agree.

The GOP should have won the Nevada Senate seat. Even with someone like Sharron came close to ousting Old Harry.

Delaware: A nightmare.

But a net pickup of 61 seats in the House! And 6 in the Senate(perhaps more on the way)!

It was a great night overall!

The folks in California and New York should be ashamed. They voted for more of Obama like government. My God, they will now reap what they have sown.

Not to be all gloom and doom, but I think this is scary. Hickenlooper won, Coons won, Ried won, ASSachusetts went (D) across the board (as usual (sigh))...If this was a referendum on Obama, I guess people don't hate him as much as they fear conservatives.

In CA, the fruits and nuts reelected Boxer, kinda reelected Brown, turned down marijuana legalization and here’s the biggie; Prop 25 passed and will allow budgets to be passed with a simple majority vote (was 2/3rds). With our permanent dem legislature, every budget will now steamroll the pubbies and no one will be left to protect the citizens.

Ah but here’s how it works. Trash her, and then when she loses say, See?
Hopefully she will stick around. Lots of successful politicians don’t win early on. For somer reason lots of conservatives are so quick to call uncle. Girly Men. Glad we have some tough women in the party. Oh and I agree, what good is a Republican who votes like a Democrat?

Once again, MA shows itself to be hopeless. All the Democrats won, and of the 3 statewide ballot questions, the proposed state income tax reduction was rejected, and the proposal to scrap our ridiculous low-income housing law was rejected.

The only thing I got last night was a reduction in the sales tax on alcohol. Whoopty-Doo.

even though we won big, i still feel steamed about Nv, Wa, and Ak... cause you KNOW they are going the dims way...

COD i figured would probably go down...

But Reid, that really gets to me...

We did very well statewide with several races going our way...

In Ga here, pretty much a total statewide rout...

I just feel bummed about the senate loses...

Several of the Senate candidates ultimately were big disappointments. Absolutely.

But, just below the radar, and just below the smashing House victory, the state legislatures went deeply red. This will keep the Dems away from power for a long time:

http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/11/03/the-tsunami/

The state gains in 1994 were big...but they were much, much bigger this time. And we are in front of redistricting!

So, the Dems took a deep body shot last night, causing massive internal bleeding. It is true they didn’t take the spectacular upper cut to the jaw knocking them out of the ring (continuing the metaphor). But they got hurt, real real bad.

Toomey in PA is a big win and a slap in the face of Rove, who failed to back him against The Sphincter. I wish more mention of that were made on Faux. I wish Rove weren’t even on Faux.

Once again, proof that the voters are idiots. Just (fortunately) the idiots favored our side a bit this time

Here in Frederick County, Maryland, we had three candidates named "Young." All related.

One, running for State Delegate, is a classic tax-and-spend more liberal with a long track record in local politics. His son, running for County Commissioner, a hard core Tea Partier who hosts a popular right-wing radio show, and his other son, a teacher who was running for the extremely unpopular local school board.

All three of them won. Seriously, I don't think the local voters even knew which Young they were electing, they just kept choosing Young....Young....Young...... even though the three stand for radically different values and principles.

This is what you get in a society which gets it's news from the Comedy Channel

Your forgetting massholes. They need to be ashamed too. ESPECIALLY those in district 4 who voted for barney frank. Oh yes, barney effin frank won handily. I’m sickened and ashamed and I want to get out of here!

Right on. I almost didn’t care. They have made their bed. Heck, they are now not only letting dead people vote, they are electing them. I only hope the rest of the country is watching them and understands. That’s the main thing I’m not sure about. America? YOU TOO can be CA if you don’t take this seriously, stop getting your *news* from the likes of Stephen Colbert and John Stewart and take a little time out of your day to really inform yourself.

Those are great points.

I just hope the winners of last night encourage us to have the courage of our convictions and not just accept candidates who check off all the right boxes, who “think like we do,” and think enough of ourselves to hold out for quality. Look at the conservatives who won last night—not a scary blowhard among them. Rubio is utterly inspiring. O’Donnell wouldn’t have been capable of that speech.

We have to knock off the mewling anti-intellectual stuff that leads us to support people mostly because MSNBC doesn’t like them. We have to have more vigorous primaries and not react to the left.

When we put out conservatives who don’t just talk the talk but have records and lives reflective of conservative values, we win. When we demean our own standards and support pathetic, unworthy candidates, we look childish.
