Several of the Senate candidates ultimately were big disappointments. Absolutely.
But, just below the radar, and just below the smashing House victory, the state legislatures went deeply red. This will keep the Dems away from power for a long time:

The state gains in 1994 were big...but they were much, much bigger this time. And we are in front of redistricting!
So, the Dems took a deep body shot last night, causing massive internal bleeding. It is true they didn’t take the spectacular upper cut to the jaw knocking them out of the ring (continuing the metaphor). But they got hurt, real real bad.
Some are saying the silver lining in the dems keeping the Senate is that Obama can’t run against That Evil Republican Congress.
I’m not sure how much silver is in that lining. What do you think?
I agree completely. Both houses in blue Minnesota went to the GOP. That hasn’t happened in a generation!
Now we’ll see if the ‘rats can cheat enough to take the Governorship...At least if Dayton steals it, his hands will be tied.
1994 was an excellent tactical victory that was later squandered. This - so far - appears to be a decisive strategic win.
The GOP has a habit of shooting itself in the foot, though. I'm not overconfident. However, I liked John Boehner's speech last night - not "We Won, Get over it!" but "We Won, now we've got some work to do". Set the right tone IMHO.
