Did we just have a minor earthquake in Maryland? I live in Mount Airy and was just woken up by some major shaking! Nothing seems amiss though.

We heard a loud sound and wondered what it was. Could have been an earthquake.

About 5:05am in Northern Virginia, there was general shaking, but no damage. Power is still on.

Certainly was an earthquake. I was lying in bed thinking of what I had to do today when the windows started shaking and the floorboards too. As soon as I thought earthquake, it was over.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. I used to drive near or through Mount Airy from Michigan on my way 4th of July baseball tournaments in Greensboro, NC every summer for several years in the ‘90’s with the youth teams I coached. Wasn’t that the birthplace or home of Andy Griffith?

Well, if it was an earthquake, do what they do in California and call the police, to let them know about it.

Seriously - you get thrown around the room, so you turn on the radio, and you here: “and police are getting reports of an earthquake...”. It’s like the people think that police stations have some special suspension system that prevents them from feeling the things. LOL.

Mount Airy, NC is Mayberry, and the birthplace of Andy Griffith. Just north of “Mt. Pilot.”

They took some liberties with place names and geography. Siler City isn’t a destination for anything much, and is not nearby. “Mt. Pilot” is Pilot Mountain, the mountain and the town. Cana, VA., just over the border, does have a few residents that might remind you of the Darlings, though.

It’s a pretty area. I’m surprised you didn’t pass through there from Michigan to Greensboro, on I-77 or US 52 to I-40.

Fox News mentioned Rockville, Montgomery County.

Nothing felt in Howard County.

A few years ago in Howard Co. we felt a *shock & bang* recorded seismically as an *anomaly* not a quake. Not even newsworthy. Put it down to a gasline burp;)

Mount Airy, NC is the birthplace of Andy Griffith. There's a Mount Airy, MD too.
