Study: Women in Bikinis Make Men More Impulsive (A Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice)

Bikinis and other sexy stimuli can make men more prone to seek immediate gratification leading to blown diets, budgets and bank accounts, new research suggests.
In the study, detailed in the Journal of Consumer Research, men alternately fondled t-shirts and bras (which were not being worn during the test).
After touching the bras, men valued the future less and the present more, said lead researcher Bram Van Den Bergh of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. Viewing ads with women in bikinis had the same effect.

Yes, we all knew it but of course it's essential to have such important truths scientifically documented :-)

Bikinis Instigate Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice
Bram Van den Bergh
Siegfried Dewitte
Luk Warlop*
Neuroscientific studies demonstrate that erotic stimuli activate the reward circuitry processing monetary and drug rewards. Theoretically, a general reward system may give rise to nonspecific effects: exposure to hot stimuli from one domain may thus affect decisions in a different domain. We show that exposure to sexy cues leads to more impatience in intertemporal choice between monetary rewards. Highlighting the role of a general reward circuitry, we demonstrate that individuals with a sensitive reward system are more susceptible to the effect of sex cues, that the effect generalizes to nonmonetary rewards, and that satiation attenuates the effect.

Or, perhaps the Socialist Miracle that the Belgians have inflicted upon themselves and much of the rest of Europe has reduced them to such a low intellectual level that they honestly didn't understand the cause and effect relationship going on with bikinis.

Okay. Sexual arousal impairs judgment. Everybody knows that...well...almost everybody.
This is a good reason to make decisions before becoming aroused--not to get into a situation in which impaired judgment might be dangerous--and not to allow teenagers to get into tempting situations.
Mother Nature has been in business for a long time; what she wants is lots of sex and lots of babies; and she knows how to get 'em.

Hi Stoat - thanks for the ping. Great thread! You're quite welcome, and I'm delighted that you like it :-)
Is there a Bikini Thread Ping List? I mean, separate from the more general Salacious Ping List?
I don't believe so; at least I have never seen any evidence of one.
If not, there oughta be...
I applaud and entirely agree with your astute assessment of the substantial value of Bikinis to modern society and of the necessity to encourage their use and appreciation. Among the innumerable benefits of bikinis, they are a direct kick in the face to Islamofascism, as if saying "we reject every single aspect of your worldview and we will crush you on the battlefield as well as at the poolside and the beach".
Here's an old yet still essential thread which serves as testament to how powerful ladies' fashions can be as an essential weapon of modern warfare:
MEMRI TV latest clips Iran's Enemies Want to Destroy it with Miniskirts (Iranian TV); 3 more.
Too bad it's so old that many links no longer serve the great photos that were there, but the original video is still archived at the MEMRI TV site....just search for clip # 468
Regarding your excellent suggestion of a 'dedicated' bikini thread, I believe that it's such an important question that the Mistress of the Salacious Ping List should be consulted.
Xenalyte, are "bikini" threads (such as this one) typically covered under the "Salacious" umbrella, or do you think that it would be beneficial to start an entirely new Bikini ping list?

Indeed, you correctly ascertained my intent. Our enemies are of a nature that they can be repelled and/or crushed by something as simple as cultural differences (witness the many ways they are unable to handle normal aspects of modern, much less Western, life).
> Here's an old yet still essential thread which serves as testament to how powerful ladies' fashions can be as an essential weapon of modern warfare...
Yep, I agree that's the way to go. Those of us on the home front, enjoying the freedom and other benefits of the sacrifices made by our military overseas, should look for ways we, too, can contribute to the downfall of Islamofascism.
I might note that those soldiers who visit FreeRepublic will likewise reap enjoyment and inspiration from such threads.

Agreed on all counts and of course for the pinglist members it would indeed be a great convenience (as opposed to doing a keyword search for 'bikini')....the graphic for such a pinglist would indeed get the creative juices flowing :-)
However, after some consideration I would wish to remove myself from consideration in any involvement with the management of such a pinglist...even if such a list could get the blessing of the Mods here (doubtful in my view) I am imagining virtually EVERY male at Free Republic clamoring to get on the Bikini Ping List. The spectre of a thousand or more FReepmails in my inbox EVERY FREAKING DAY FOR A MONTH, all wanting to be added to the list, is quite a bit more than I really care to deal with. A deluge of that magnitude is probably best handled by a dedicated team, not just one lone, scruffy, and flea-infested stoat. If that's a burden that you wouldn't mind shouldering then by all means go ahead, but I would wish to suggest that such a project would take you away from your incisive and witty commentary on other more varied issues of the day here, something that would indeed be a loss to Free Republic :-)

( A Bikini Ping List 'should' also include miniskirts, in my view :-))

I think that your excellent photo highlights, among other things, the resourceful nature not only of bikinis but the wearers thereof. The islamofascists don’t stand a chance when we have frontline soldiers who are so clever and inventive as this :-)
