If Biden leaves then Harris gets in and there is no longer a tie breaker in the Senate. McConnell could hold up appointment of a replacement VP until the next election.

It’s Romney we’re taking about. He’s a useful white guy for the dims.

And Romney is a willing stooge who will play along with the charade that the democrats and republicans are working together for the greater good.

Honestly, made me feel better - I had forgotten that tidbit.

Democrats hate everyone, since when has that stopped them from doing stuff that advances their agenda?

With Romney as VP and all the RINO butt-licking “GOP moderates” behind him in the name of “bipartisanship” they’d have no problem passing bills with a veto-proof vote.

How does anyone other than Newsom gain by elevating a guy to VP who is facing the possibility of getting run out of his own state on a rail by the voters?

Yes, the appointed VP has to be approved by simple majorities in both Houses. Republicans would have to be stupid (redundant, I know) to approve anyone before 2022.

Don’t know that Newsom’s being from California would make him ineligible. That only kicks in when counting Electoral Votes.

Appointing Newsom would be counterproductive. I don’t think he could garner any Republican votes. Both previous VP appointments, Ford and Rockefeller, were not seen as threats by the democrats who controlled both houses at the time.

> Read the Constitution - both can’t be from same state. <

The Constitution prohibits Electors from voting for two people from the same state. But the Electoral College would not be involved here.

So I think a VP Newsom would pass muster. (It would go against the spirit of the Constitution, but not against the actual wording.)

Democrats will take care of that. They will proclaim Newsom as "The Comeback Kid", and they will circle the wagons around him. He is their Golden Boy.

Ahh, yes, you can see the deep efforts of Harris to support Newsom from her no-show the other day. Totally going to sink chances at winning 2024 by making a California governor Vice President.

Especially since this is supposed to ‘save’ him from a recall - if he can't even hold onto power in a deep blue state, how on earth would he bring anything to the White House?

Ballot harvesting is already underway, Newsom’s recall defense is virtually assured, and even if it is somehow a recall, with Cox helpfully blowing cash like water on TV ads, it's quite possible for a D win to still happen.

I don’t think they can install a VP without 51 votes in the senate. I could be wrong.

With RINO traitors like Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney and others, getting 51 votes is guaranteed.

“Dems guarantee continued power in Kalifornia”

“Dems” are going to be in power in California until the next century.

Gap toothed fat Alberta Stacy Abrams is my guess. Can she pass the senate? Maybe with the rino wimps she can.

Agreed. Biden is a narcissist. Narcissists don’t admit fault and certainly don’t step down from appointed posts.

You are correct. How many Republicans do you believe would vote against Newsom? 5? 7?

No. She remains Speaker, and just becomes first in the line of succession to the presidency. A President Harris would nominate her own VP. If her choice is confirmed by Congress, then Pelosi gets bumped back to being second in the line of succession.
