It's the Turning Back of the Clocks (days will now be shorter until March)

Posted on 11/02/2019 1:47:53 PM PDT by SamAdams76

So one of my favorite times of the year is getting an extra hour of sleep due to giving back the extra hour of daylight that we got back in April.

I'm a big proponent of Daylight Savings Time. Having that extra hour of daylight during warmer months is so important, especially for working people, who really benefit from the longer day.

I don't think I can convey in words how much I love Daylight Savings time and changing the clocks twice a year. It would be a much sadder world if we did not have a way to bring in extra daylight during the summer months.

From about mid May to mid September, I get home from work with ample daylight left and I get to putting a steak on the grill and having a beer or two while sitting on my patio, waiting for the fireflies to come out.

Thank you to Daylight Savings time for making that possible.

But now it's time to give that extra daylight back. Which is okay by me because it's getting too cold to sit out on that patio anyhow.

Starting Monday, I come home to total darkness as our days are now shorter but that's okay. I will be hanging up some Christmas lights (inside) this weekend and that will brighten my mood considerably. I always do Christmas lights floor to ceiling in the house and have them on through Super Bowl Sunday.

So I actually like the shorter days during the winter months. When it is dark and cold outside, you just want to crank up the fireplace, sit in a comfortable chair and spend a few hours reading a good book.

Also tonight, I get that extra hour of sleep as the day is 25 hours long. I wonder what I am going to dream about!

Two of my favorites days of the year is when the clocks change. In April, we make the day longer and in early November, we make the day shorter. All in balance.

Also, the angle of the sun is much lower this time of year so the sunlight comes through the windows most of the day (my condo faces the South). So even though it's colder outside, there is warmth on the inside. And when the sun goes down, the Christmas lights come on. So I can deal.

I have to give special thanks to Benjamin Franklin for coming up with a way to extend the daylight during the warmer months of the year.

Ugh—the changes are horrible. And it is dark too early in the winter when we are off DST. We should just stay on it year-round.

There are nice things about each time of year , which you point out to us. It’s nice to think positive.

.... days will now be shorter until April

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually, you don’t have to wait until April ... daylight savings time begins March 8 in 2020.

In Florida they passed a bill to make DST year round, like Arizona. Its differentnt in a warmer climate, and most people including the republican governor DeSantis support making DST permanent.

Hate DST. Nothing is saved, just time shifted. Gimme an extra hour a day and we’ll talk...

No the days have been getting shorter since June 22, and will begin to get longer on December 22. All that’s happening tomorrow is a bunch of people will change what their clock SAYS. The single stupidest exercise in the world.

I am in Arizona, where we do not participate. I am only affected because I remote in and my employer is on east coast time.

To me it just makes more sense to change the time of your activities instead of engaging in the legal fiction that midday doesn’t really mean midday.

Supposedly it saves energy. Weren’t we on year round daylight time during world war I and/or II?

I recall for a time in the 70s we were on year round daylight time during the energy crisis.

The days are getting shorter because the sun is moving further south of the celestial equator--how we set our clocks has nothing to do with the length of the day.

If you want the day to be the same length all year long, there is a simple solution--move to the equator. Days are 12 hours and nights are 12 hours all year long there.

I have always felt that Daylight Savings Time is a crime against nature.

All that’s happening tomorrow is a bunch of people will change what their clock SAYS.

Which is fine by me as I still go by the clock. And that clock gives me an extra hour of daylight in April (which is taken back in early November).

Maybe when I retire, I won't pay as much attention to the clock. But now I'm sort of a slave to it.

I read your whole post and thought you were being sarcastic. Sun comes up, sun goes down, it really doesn’t matter when I set my activities and schedule to accomadate the earth’s rotation on its axis as it goes around the sun. The activities change and when I drive with headlights changes. I’m glad you like this fall back, spring forward stuff. Me? Not so much.

Yes, they passed a bill— BUT in a blatant demonstration of the lack of observance of the 10th Amendment-— Congress... by Law is required to pass the OK for an area to be changed to DST year round. I kid you not.
