The image of Stephen Hawking who has died aged 76 in his motorized wheelchair, with head contorted slightly to one side and hands crossed over to work the controls, caught the public imagination, as a true symbol of the triumph of mind over matter. As with the Delphic oracle of ancient Greece, physical impairment seemed compensated by almost supernatural gifts, which allowed his mind to roam the universe freely, upon occasion enigmatically revealing some of its secrets hidden from ordinary mortal view.

and come up with some utterly idiotic and PC garbage like anthropomorphic global warming.
We are close to the tipping point, where global warming becomes irreversible. Trump's action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of 250 degrees [Celsius], and raining sulfuric acid," he told BBC News, referring to the president's decision in June 2017 to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate deal.
Stephen Hawking
I meant to include this in my previous post
And yet he was an atheist?
Good riddance to this leftist, doom-and-gloom propagandist.
He was a little ingrate NAZI. Israel gave him the ability to speak. He used his voice as a clarion call to divest and boycot Israel. That and encouraged atheism for the mindless fools he helped lead down that wide road to the place of eternal torment.
I came to the conclusion long ago that his intelligence was vastly overrated
jeez....
Personally, I try not to confuse his political-bent with his fundamental contributions to Physics. (or be distracted by his disabilities.)
-I’m not too much interested in his opinions on “climate change,” for the reason he was a theoretical physicist and not a climate scientist. Everyone has opinions, but not everyone has specific expertise, even if they have PhD’s in Maths & Physics.
That being said— if the underlying point is; was the guy exploited somewhat for political gain throughout the years, by the people-who-do-that, because he was in a wheel-chair, and some sort of poster-boy for utopian-statism, et al? Absolutely.
His early work with Penrose however, was brilliant.
I doubt he is an atheist now.
Me too. Read his books, read Feynman’s books. Feynman is the better of the two.
Stephen Hawking was a brilliant physicist but he was bested by Leonard Susskind. They had a decades old debate about what happens to information in a black hole. Ultimately Lenny won that debate. Although Hawking got all the buzz Lenny is the man on black holes.
Death has a habit of turning the most ardent atheist into an evangelist ...
Love Feynman! Every year or two I like to re-read “Surely You’re Joking Mr. Feynman!”
Glad you weighed in!
I followed the “Black Hole Wars,” quite a bit, and have plowed through all of Leonard Susskind’s on-line lectures, although NOT a string-theory guy.
(I’m in the Conformal Cyclic Cosmology camp, ala Penrose.)
And for the Nazi’s here; Susskind is personally a hard-leftist and Trump-hater, although he tries not to be ‘public’ about it, cuz’ he’s a theoretical physicist.
Speaking of Hawking, and others:
Any person can be brilliant in a Field, and/but that doesn’t make them an “expert” on everything.
The guy just died, why attack him?
(Thad Cochran has dementia, John McCain has a brain tumor, Mitch McConnell can barley walk or think clearly, HRC has a neurological disease, and some of you clowns bother to attack a British Physicist, for what he thinks politically. He never raised my taxes, and can’t vote.)
Penrose sorta believes in “global warming,” but who cares?
The man is a brilliant Math/Geometry intellect.
HE BELIEVES THERE IS A HEAVEN
AND HE KNOWS THERE IS A HELL.
“I came to the conclusion long ago that his intelligence was vastly overrated”
Yep you got that right- his parents were BIG leftists-
which caused him to Reject God
he divorced his wife and “married his nurse”
had a FIXation- OF all things- Marilyn Monroe-
(pictures,statues,memorabilia)
he was smart- but not as smart as Al gore
Sarcastic last remark- Globulll warming made me do it
That’s what I thought too — vastly over-rated intelligence, the kind that attracts the American people in big numbers.
Maybe you posted to the wrong guy. I didn’t attack Hawking and don’t care about his politics or Susskind’s politics. I don’t listen to them for their political views.
I also have little use for people that excessively beat up on dying or dead people. So I agree with many of your points.
sorry if I mis-replied or misspoke to you.
-I am sorta shocked at the Hawking-hating going on here.
It’s an Obituary, written by Dr. Roger Penrose.
