Starting later this year, residents of Pennsylvania will be allowed to seek out medicinal marijuana products as a treatment option for 17 health conditions.
Theres just one catch: Any patient who also happens to be a proud gun owner must first relinquish or trade in his weapons before receiving his medicine, according to a statement from the Pennsylvania State Police.
Its unlawful to keep possession of firearms obtained prior to registering (for medicinal marijuana), said state police spokesman Ryan Tarkowski, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pennsylvania State Police is not in the business of offering legal advice, but it might be a good idea to contact an attorney about how best to dispose of their firearms, he added.
I disagree. If anything, they should contact an attorney to determine how to best fight back against this sort of unacceptable tyranny.

It appears the state of PA intends to keep a thriving, robust Black Market.
They would rather have a sleepy citizenry than an armed citizenry. MUCH easier to control!
Anyone who has filled out a form 4473 for a gun knows that federal law prohibits marijuana users from owning firearms.
PA is complying with federal law.
The guy didn't say anything about it being illegal to retain the guns that one obtains AFTER registering, so give your guns to a family member or friend, register, and then have them give the guns back to you...
;-)
Seriously, though, situations like this are why I don't want the government knowing how many, and what types, of guns I own. After marijuana, what other reasons will they adopt to make people relinquish their guns.
Illinois floated that balloon and got it stuck in their ear.
The problem here is, if pot is legal, then the same rules should apply to prescription drug use.
Good luck with that.
“Seriously, though, situations like this are why I don’t want the government knowing how many, and what types, of guns I own. After marijuana, what other reasons will they adopt to make people relinquish their guns. “
Only your doctor should know what medicines you are taking. Screw the government.
1940’s - You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.
2010’s - Give them some Grass and you can invade the mainland of the United States without firing a shot.
;-)
Personally do not think Pot smokers should have firearms..or a Drivers license either for that matter...Can’t function if high...just like a drunk.
But that is so upsetting to drugged out neomarxists.
Obamacare mandates that the government get all your medical records.
There is no patient/doctor privacy.
This actually squares with existing Federal law that prohibits drug users and drug dealers from owning firearms.
And I believe that law was signed by President Reagan as part of the war on drugs.
Well that has to be fixed...thank you John McCain.
This may be semantics but the 4473 question would prevent you from buying a legal firearm, not owning one. Tho could bevan interesting legal debate. I do know in Colorado I cannot go into a pot store given I have a chp. Or hang out with pot smokers.
It has to be repealed.
Every.
Last.
Word.
Thanks Cheerio. Good idea, nothin' makes less sense than a bunch of sharpshooters with glaucoma.
The question is there because ownership is prohibited.
After marijuana, what other reasons will they adopt to make people relinquish their guns.

Short of a conviction for a violent felony, the government should not be able to remove your 2nd Amendment rights.
Sorry to disappoint the gun-grabbers here. This is from ammoland.com =>

An earlier statement, suggested medical marijuana users should give up their firearms. CBS reported this statement was on the Pennsylvania State Police website.
From cbslocal.com:
It is unlawful for you to keep possession of any firearms which you owned or had in your possession prior to obtaining a medical marijuana card, and you should consult an attorney about the best way to dispose of your firearms.
The above statement is no longer found on the State Police website. Governor Tom Wolf has reassured Pennsylvania gun owners that Pennsylvania police will not be seeking medical marijuana users to confiscate their guns.
From wesa.fm:
According to the governor, the Pennsylvania State Police do not advise that if people receive medical marijuana they get rid of their guns. However, if they have questions about gun ownership and applying for medical marijuana, they should consult with their attorneys.
The one thing Wolf was clear on is that the state will not be seeking out those who already own guns.
Were not going to take their guns away, Wolf said.
