Think v Troll (Then They Came For Speech)
Splice Today ^ | April 8, 2016 | Todd Seavey

One of the most frustrating things about the recent censorious trend among sensitive politicized youth is that it renders useless my last-ditch political metaphor. I always figured if the day came that all other arguments for liberty were failing—if no one wanted to hear about free trade or gun rights or religious liberty—I could always fall back on the concept of free speech.

I don’t just mean that if you think speech should be free you logically must think all non-violent human action should be free (though I do). The free speech analogy, while it lasted, was also useful for defusing the bogus argument that “You must be in favor of X because you are willing to permit X.”

By prosecuting words, they attempt to control thoughts and opinions. Doesn’t work with me.

Liberals are unable to understand the concept of speech that might offend vs. speech that is part of people's rights.

Libs usually go by the dictum that speech that offends somebody or some group has to be censored. Not only will some people's feelings be hurt, the "offensive" speech MIGHT!!! eventually cause physical harm.

In short, you have a small group of people who set themselves up as judge and jury who think it just and proper to illegally censor the speech i.e. rights of others.

This is what is has happened in Europe and Canada. Petty fascists have had people thrown in jail for making "offensive" comments. And of course, libs would like to see it done here. Thrown in jail for "offending" a particular favored group(s).

In my opinion, we miss the point completely when we say that what is going on is a few libs with their feelings hurt who try to silence others. It is far, far larger. The useful idiots are the college kids who have been taught to act offended (even when they aren’t). The idea is simply part of a worldwide leftist movement (put whatever label on it you like) to silence everyone who disagrees with the totalitarian left and to give an absolute monopoly of speech on the almighty state. That is the ultimate goal. The students, the speech codes, the newspaper “style manuals” etc. are just stalking horses for the real goal—total control. This is going on everywhere in the world, in a very coordinated way.

I tend to agree...leftists are always going for total control. I will make a slight distinction between liberals and leftists. Many liberals believe they're doing good and end up doing evil without intending to do so. Leftists outright want complete control of everything and to crush their opponents.

I realize many conservatives conflate liberals and leftists. But I know some liberals (family members, friends), and they're not wacko on everything. In fact they're very conservative on certain issues.

But leftists, like Obama, are of a different bent. There's no compromise with leftists.
