What do the presidential candidates think about the space program?

One of the interesting aspects of any modern presidential campaign has been the lack of detailed policy positions from the candidates on NASA and space exploration. The reason for this can be illustrated by what happened to Newt Gingrich when he made an exception and proposed building a moon base when he ran for president in 2012. More of that anon.

I would love them to ask Trump about that. I imagine his response would be something like:

I think a moon base would be a terrific idea because, we don’t build moon bases anymore, we used to, but not anymore, I am winning in all the polls, moon bases are terrific, I would build the biggest moon base you have ever seen, unlike anything the..., you know the polls and even the crowds are very favorable to me, we get tremendous support, the Russians can have mars, who cares? No body cares about mars. Moon bases under a Trump administration, will be terrific, we just need need the right people to build them, I am terrific at building things and I always do what I say I am going to do, the people love me, and we are going to, the ratings, the polls, terrific, just terrific. Moon bases.

Seven years ago NASA got lost in the space between obama’s ears, hopefully the next president will send out a rescue mission.

And he'd get the Selenites to pay for it.
