Immigrants historically have always worked harder than native Americans. That’s why it’s so good to have immigrants.
How many of these shops are equal opportunity employers?
Incredibly talented people. And nice, too. They run these stores in NY and NJ.
it’s a cash business, mostly. I’ll bet the sales are way underreported to the IRS. The ladies are sweet and work very hard. I have seen them taken advantage of by male shop owners, though, e.g. having to hand over their tips.
We have Vietnamese nail salons in Houston too. Also the fish market where we buy all our seafood is owned and operated by a Vietnamese family. I will never forget when we went in right after 9/11 Hi was wearing a cap and a t-shirt with American flags on them. there was no doubt where his loyalty lay. For those of you in Houston Fountainview Fish Market on on Fountain View st one block south of Westheimer. He will also fry you up some shrimp and french fries for lunch right on the spot!
Do they have to be “Vietnemese Americans” for gosh sakes?! Asians are usually very proud to be just plain Americans.
"...really didn't mind the tiny little brushes, it was their idea of curling my tail that had me hit 4th gear before I hit the door"
I guess that they are Chinese by their round nostrils (only folks to have them) and then I ask.
I USED to go to them for acrylic nails but their work is substandard BECAUSE they do every client in an hour. That just isn't long enough. The nails chip and break within days...and thus one has to go in for "repairs." Their prices are lower for a reason but end up being more expensive with all the repairs and time spent.
The person I have now is SUPER.
However, I agree with your premise of them being hard workers. That they are.
There, all the Vietnamese run donut shops. :-P
Around here it is closer to 90% and the ones that aren't have to do hair and such to make money.
But isn't that "acting white"? They should be living off of welfare, getting their housing through Section Eight, and perhaps earning some extra tax-free income by selling narcotics on the side.
They come here not knowing much English and not knowing the culture. They use their intelligence and energy to set up businesses.
Then there’s this group that has been in the USA for a long time. It has no energy to start businesses. It lives among English-speaking people but refuses to (or can’t) learn to speak English. It complains about discrimination in order to excuse its self-inflicted failures.
I don’t think this is big news. In central Minnesota, nearly all of the workers in manicure/pedicure shops are Asian, and most are Vietnamese.
Saul Goodman looks upon nail salons as sources for personal back walkers.
Ladies from Viet Nam seem the majority at nail salons.
The fumes they sit and breath every day is slowly killing them.
Many also are smokers, that’ll help.
Here inLA they move into mini-malls and take up ALL of the parking. In tje meantime all of the other businesses in the mall go out of businesses use there is no parking.
It’s a double edged sword.
