The silver lining of all silver linings for Democrats heading into Tuesdays blood bath was that the 2016 Senate battleground map would flip. Since there were only like ~2 total silver linings, thats not saying a whole lot. But its true that Republicans will be defending 24 Senate seats to the Democrats 10 in the next cycle a presidential cycle, when Democrats actually bother voting.

I don't see the landscape changing in '16. Repubs keep the Senate.
The only GOPers in trouble:
Kirk
Toomey
Johnson
Ayottee
Dem seat in Trouble
Reid
I guess this is what the Salon writers need to tell themselves so that they won’t jump off a bridge after this week’s bloodbath for the Dems.
I’d pretty much say that if Georgia’s Isakson doesn’t retire, he’ll get a tough primary challenge. We ran off Chambliss - it’s time for Johnny to book it, too.
Im sure they thought that Illinois, Maryland, and Massachusetts were safe as well a few weeks ago.
Obamacare hits full force this spring. Anyone associated with that disaster is toast.
Their underlying Message: GOP better move to the middle and reach across the aisle!
The Democrats have a talent shortage as well. I’m not concerned.
Salon is in business to make the NY Times look conservative...I think it makes Mother Jones look middle of the road...
Mitch should be on borrowed time. The POS socialists/progressives/’rats should be doing prison time.
You did build that, scumbags. Pay up.
Socialism Is Legal Plunder - Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850)
Manchin may have a very tough time in W. Virginia, unless he flips to the Republicans. That state is BRIGHT RED now.
McConnell is on borrowed time, but not for the reason stated here; he might very well not survive the next six years, either physically (nothing insinuated here, he’s just old) or politically, especially if a few more right-of-Mitch Senators join the august body in 2016.
Not so
Manchin is slated as VERY likely to run for his state’s open governorship in 2016, triggering a special election in West Virginia which the Republicans win by default.
You also have Bennet in Colorado, who is a considerably worse candidate than Mark Udall. Depending on the national mood, he’s in trouble.
I also have trouble seeing Ayotte go. NH seems to like their female senators and she has become a Susan Collins wannabe so nothing controversial the Dems can pin her with.
NEW YORK (Reuters) . . .The broad Democratic losses could give the former secretary of state a chance to take over the role of party leader from a wounded President Barack Obama and sharpen her image as the Democrats' 2016 savior. The results were widely seen as more of a referendum on questions about Obamas leadership rather than a sweeping rejection of Democratic policies. linky
After going and reading the comments at salon (man do I need a shower now) I am amazed that people really think the way they do.
They have no grasp of democracy, no grasp of economics, and and no grasp of reality.
Liberalism truly is a mental disease
If the dems keep doing what they have been they will likely lose more seats.....they lost some blue elections this time.
Yeah, this notion of 2016 being a giant Demon Rat Celebration year began to appear about five minutes after midnight on Wednesday.....
As if nothing is going to happen in two years, and that the Republicans aren’t going to try and GOVERN like grown ups in the next two years.
I think the Republicans can see the upcoming election battles, too, just like the Demon Rats. And guess what, media? They can pass ALL SORTS OF LAWS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE LOVE...and if Obama vetos them, *poof* there goes your fantasies about Republicans having no argument for replacing more Democrats (even in Democrat states) in 2016.
And if Obama signs them, *poof* there goes your fantasies about an angry electorate in 2016.
Hopefully that part of the headline is true, Mitch's time will be up in January when Cruz takes over leadership and begins his campaign for president in 2016, Mitch can sit in the corner with his dunce hat on and observe what real leadership looks like.
No matter what happens in 2016, for the next two years we must not compromise or act like rino’s.
Yeah, I love those “move to the middle comments”. Right now, the GOP is in the right lane of the left side of the aisle. We would welcome a move toward the right. The dem wing of the GOP tries hard each day to hold onto their grip on the apparatus and unfortunately are the biggest grabbers of the political bribe money, er, financing.
