I don't understand your units abbreviation.
The standard velocity .22 Long Rifle takes a wax coated 40 grain RN lead bullet to a muzzle velocity of 1,138 fps. (feet per second).

Decent quality 22 caliber Air Guns for ~$500 reach 1,000 fps.
Of course this is a much lighter pellet, maybe 14 grains versus the 40 grains of the 22LR. But the original poster (BuffaloJack) said velocity, not energy.

Then the OEM’s can charge more, because Midway can sell it for more. That is how a free market works. Midway is obviously willing to pay more, since they cannot keep anything on the shelf that doesn’t run 40 cents per 22LR bullet.

I saw many thousands of rounds at ten cents at the Pickens flea market last Wednesday.
Midway does not pay more.... price lists from OEM’s are adjusted once every year or so, depends on raw materials... sorry but offering more to OEM’s for product does not work. PO’s are placed and product comes... some times 24 months later....

I just checked my .22 magnum hollow points....paid (many moons ago) $8.50 per box of 50 — haven’t fired one off in years.

Then OEMs are STUPID. I’ve never heard of a business that cannot figure out how to price its product with some variation during the year. In a seller’s market, the seller can charge what they want - and GET IT.
Just to get the record straight:
Completely different equipment is used for 22LR than center fire cartridges, zero interchange of capacity between the two types of ammunition...
As for the USG buying up billions...fact is in spite of what FOX new reported... it was a 5 year buy... the same 200-220 million rounds the USG agencies have been buying for years...it was bundled to save money, 5 years of ammo in one purchase. Sorry to burst your bubble with facts.

Any particular reason you needed 2,000 rounds?
Did you get them all or did you leave a few for other folks?
Just asking....I’m thinking that a bunch of folks picking up 2K rounds, of .22 LR no less, are what’s causing the shortage.
I think I’ll wait till the panic stops and the prices come down. If it ever stops.
When you need 2,000 rounds, it will be too late to buy 2,000 rounds.
When you want and can afford 2,000 rounds, is the time to buy .
Aaaah its called long term...planning. Every one in the ammuntion manufacturing segment of the market has 8-18 months back log normally. These are extraordinary times...
The flex is at the retail side and you are seeing it with currently high pricing.... that does not go to the OEM. They make their margin and carry on.
Most of the 22LR on market today is from purchase orders placed 18-20 months ago or longer.. fact

Yes, it does. Most businesses have learned to be more flexible and responsive. If they sell their product for less than market value...they are STUPID.
