Changes are still afoot in the American automotive world. Once standing proudly as the only single American manufacturer run museum, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum is closing its doors.
Opened in 1999, the museum was dedicated to showcasing the full gamut of Chrysler heritagefrom flagship models to defunct brands pulled into the Chrysler fold. Over 55,000 square feet, the history of company unfolded through 4 floors packed to the gills with beautiful cars. The museum became a separate company in 2007 with bankruptcy looming. Financial stability has never found the institution...

The problem is that it’s in a location where no tourism exists. Nobody goes through Michigan. So unless you were a local who had interest....that was the only people to visit.
Walter P. Chrysler - the true father of our country.
We cant be showing off proof how great the USA once was burry it.
Either this article is incorrect about the Chrysler museum being the only single-manufacturer museum, or there’s something I don’t know about the Corvette museum in Bowling Green. Yes, technically, the Corvette museum is about a single model, rather than the entire manufacturer (Chevrolet/GM), but I would assume Chevrolet/GM runs the museum, and therefore it is also a single-manufacturer-run museum.
Not quite so....
From a vacation standpoint going to the Tigers, Lions, Redwings, and the Henry Ford Museum outstrip the monies earned from the shores of Lake Michigan. Who would have thunk S.E. Michigan as a tourist destination.
Their is a new Auto Museum at the east end of the parking lot the Henry Ford Museum, I am not sure how land locked it is, but move this collection their if they added a 2nd or 3rd floor?
Or...
Find a location at the intersections of 94 and 75 or 94 and 23, the 1st are two major trade roots via truck if you do your research and locate it and maybe other rotating collections there. Make it accessible, they will come. Then again we have generations of kids now who could give a flying crap about something like an Aurburn or a Cord and are more interested in the latest App....
Seems to me the Left has been pushing their hatred of this country, and everything about its history for so long perhaps that is why such a museum showcasing such history, and especially the horrible polluting autobehemoths of the past would be less then viable anymore.
You mean the guy who founded a car company that builds crap??? I don’t think so..
Wasn’t always crap.
Chrysler RB 440
Sorry I speak as a former Chrsyler owner and now proud owner of a Nissan.. Chrsyler is nothing but crap...
Only car enthusiasts go to these Museums.
Fact is that any car show in most any State in the Union is a better way to view classic cars than a museum.
Cheaper larger, better selection ,unless you are interested in pre 1930 cars.
I recently visited a museum in Sarasota Fl. It wasn’t expensive, but the cars had been sitting there for years and many were not museum quality cars, some showed the ravages of sitting without proper care. I have never attended a car show that did not have a better selection except for their pre 1930 automobiles.
“It wasnt expensive, but the cars had been sitting there for years and many were not museum quality cars, some showed the ravages of sitting without proper care.”
The reason is that museums are run by care-takers. The cars that end up at car shows are lovingly cared for by anal-obsessive-compulsives who love their show piece cars more than they love life.
Certainly they love their cars, and some are anal retentive, but thay have some fine rides.
Cars like that represent what percentage of the total Chrysler production?
0.0001 percent?
