Heard him say it. He warned his listeners to not be surprised when Petraeus restates before Congress that the 'the video caused the riots.' I guess we'll see. If Rush is right, we have to wonder what threats Petraeus has received and from whom.
A truly superb Army career and now it's come to this.
He was obviously threatened. Resign gracefully now. Say nice things in the hearing and we’ll go easy on you. Keep your rank and pension. Don’t blame the boss.
Nope. I think he comes out fighting. They’ve already done what they can do. He comes clean. Huge news coming.
I'm praying Petraeus takes a look at MacArthur's speech - "Duty, Honor, Country".
He doesn’t NEED to be threatened. He is a true believer. He is up to his eyeballs in democrat politics, he is the author of the Obama rules of engagement, he supports the Arab spring, supports gays in the military, dislikes Israel, etc.
People see General and think “conservative”. Modern generals are multicultural, gay loving, academics who are a shadow of what a General often was even as recently as the 80s.
Let’s hope the huge news is the truth news. I like your optimism.
Rush my be right. A lot of posters here maybe extremely disappointed,
including myself.
I think you are right.
I think Betrayus will looking at keeping his life, his pension and staying
out of jail.
I honestly doubt Betrayus, who was commissioned a 2LT in Infantry even knows what the weapons platoon is in a rifle company. He damn sure never commanded a US rifle company for long or he’s know how damn tough it is to teach GI’s to align mortar base plates to aiming stakes, use the sights and know what charge to use on a 81 mm plus the elevation and deflection. This is another of our wonder boys who are politicians first and soldiers last. They play KA and do not spend enough time with the troops. They end up being incompetent to lead the CPT’s who really command in combat plus the NCO’s.
Who would have thought that I actually now believe what Moveon.org said in the past....!! General Betrayus!!!!
I agree. He resigned citing the affair and his career in public service is over. Nothing else they can do to him other than murder.
He got the job at CIA in the first place because he is in Obama’s camp. He is one of them and will protect dear leader, because he AGREES with what happened in Benghazi.
HE is the author of the Afghan ROE that similarly refuses air and artillery to grunts in firefights there. There is no way Petraeus would ever be in favor of dropping a bomb of firing a missile into Benghazi targets.
He would only think that innocent moslems could get hurt. Then he would say “those seals were ordered three times not to go there”. Then he watched on the predator video feed as they died.
He is no blackmailed hero who will ride to our rescue and set things right. He’s a snake in the grass.
He will live up to his nickname-
Betray Us.
Indeed.
Sometimes I think Rush makes statements like this in order to undermine the possibility that it will happen.
Really — the video did it? That is now discredited by everyone. How could Petraeus continue to hold that view without being laughed at?
I agree, Rush is probably correct.
There is more than one thing they are able to hang over his head.
- His wife, who has a lucrative administration job.
- Prosecution for mishandling of confidential information.
- Prosecution of his mistress ditto.
- Future employment prospects in the NGO/academic/contracting/consulting world.
Actually he is in a NO WIN situation....
If he DOESN’T turn on BO, we will ‘condemn him’ or at the least claim he is being blackmailed.
If he DOES turn on BO, they will just ask if he is lying now or was he lying then, AND how do you expect to believe an adulterer, he is NFG.
Of course when wee willie done did it, it was OK.
The only way the Libs don’t ‘lynch him’ is if he toes the line, blames himself and keeps BO’s hands clean.
They compromised his integrity and WE will pay for it.
Actually, I am ‘very concerned’ that he (BO) is starting to purge the Upper Echelon Military, unless of course the administration charges Moochelle with extravagant spending....
Hold your breath etc....
I guess in the case of the purge of Military it will be interesting to see if the underlings ‘toe the line’ or feel threatened OR take it as an opportunity to advance themselves.
Of course they are the real ‘naive’ ones as they will be refusing to see how yesterdays ‘fair haired guys’ get thrown out with the bath water today....
I said the same thing. Don’t expect anything shocking from Petraeus
Petraeus is above all a creature of the bureaucracy. He’s not going to buck the system now, even though they have him on the ropes
Obama and his team were smart enough to hold the release of his sexual exploits until after the election. If Petraeus was really a loose cannon (which he is not), then they would also be smart enough 1) to keep the scandal secret and allow him to continue or 2) to still hold back even more unrevealed secrets as leverage, to force him to tow the line during any hearings.
That is assuming Petraeus even has something incendiary to tell. He simply may not know as much as we think he does.
Petraeus brought to the war the brilliant insight that when you don’t have enough troops to guard strong points and attack the enemy at the same time, the solution is to send more troops. In other words, not particularly earth-shaking or even original. His particular genius was being able to sell GWB on the concept of adding reinforcements, where Westmoreland had supposedly failed in Vietnam.
In reality, just as Westmoreland’s troop buildup had crushed the Vietcong, the politicians decided to withdraw, leaving the field open to a conventional invasion from the North. In Iraq, as in Vietnam, I’d argue that the insurgents were never in a position to to win, and the main threat was one of invasion. The difference in Iraq was that there’s no way Iran could have invaded, without us responding, given the stranglehold on Gulf oil resources it would have given the Iranians.
Then Petraus would confirm that Obama is a liar.
Remember the exchange during the “crowley” debate?
Let me refresh your memory:
“The day after the attack, Governor, I stood in the Rose Garden, and I told the American people and the world that we are going to find out exactly what happened, that this was an act of terror. And I also said that were going to hunt down those who committed this crime. And then a few days later, I was there greeting the caskets coming into Andrews Air Force Base and grieving with the families. “
He might say that both, the movie and an independent pre-plan were at bottom of the successful raid against the US at Benghazi; but he is not going to admit that the "movie" justification was made up. He is also not going to testify that he was told what to say, or that he was pressured (or felt pressure) with an unspoken threat to disclose his affair with Broadwell.
He's part of the problem. Has been from the start.
There were no protests in Benghazi, that has been admitted
I guess when the mob becomes the president, this is true.
-PJ
I think that's the case, too.
His military missions were essentially nation building, and success on that front does not mean nation building on US terms. The best chance at success in the middle east is to "adopt" middle eastern mores for the task at hand - "when in Rome" and all that. Realpolitik.
I believe Rush is right.
Or
Realize you are in a fight, the enemy has played dirty, either way you are a gonner and go out in a blaze of fire.
If he has any integrity, he will come clean. Actually, that is his best way out. It aint a good way out.
Part of what Rush is basing his position on is that Petraeus
has already aped the administration tale about the nasty
video causing a riot which led to the attack. To change that
would make him out a liar. Limbaugh is likely correct. As far
as Petraeus goes the under the bus toss happens down the
road if at all.
Yeppers. He still has much to lose. So much for Honor and Truth.
Betrayus will prefer to be laughed at vs keeping his life, his pension, his wife’s job and most importantly staying out of jail.
Who said what in that diaolog you posted?
Heard an interesting speculative analysis the other day that basically says this is the culmination of a 20 year fight between the Civilians and the Military inside the US Govt.
It involves Libya, deeply, but it isn’t ABOUT Libya in whole.
I suspect we know so little about what is really going on, it is impossible to really make an intelligent conclusion about much of anything.
And this part should stand out:
And through all this welter of change and development, your mission remains fixed, determined, inviolable: it is to win our wars.Everything else in your professional career is but corollary to this vital dedication. All other public purposes, all other public projects, all other public needs, great or small, will find others for their accomplishment. But you are the ones who are trained to fight. Yours is the profession of arms, the will to win, the sure knowledge that in war there is no substitute for victory; that if you lose, the nation will be destroyed; that the very obsession of your public service must be: Duty, Honor, Country.
Others will debate the controversial issues, national and international, which divide men's minds; but serene, calm, aloof, you stand as the Nation's war-guardian, as its lifeguard from the raging tides of international conflict, as its gladiator in the arena of battle. For a century and a half you have defended, guarded, and protected its hallowed traditions of liberty and freedom, of right and justice.
Let civilian voices argue the merits or demerits of our processes of government; whether our strength is being sapped by deficit financing, indulged in too long, by federal paternalism grown too mighty, by power groups grown too arrogant, by politics grown too corrupt, by crime grown too rampant, by morals grown too low, by taxes grown too high, by extremists grown too violent; whether our personal liberties are as thorough and complete as they should be. These great national problems are not for your professional participation or military solution. Your guidepost stands out like a ten-fold beacon in the night: Duty, Honor, Country.
“he comes out fighting”
Or maybe he meekly corroborates everything the Obamamites have been saying.
For all we know they may have something else on him, e.g. maybe a dead girl they’re ready to use, a frame they’ve made; or they may have simply threatened his life if he doesn’t toe-the-line. He’s been working with guys who do that sort of thing, who issue and carry out such orders.
Yes, Americans don’t much cotton to presidents who leave their fellow Americans to die a lingering, painful at the hands of foreign savages. That’s what makes this so sordid and this could have brought Zero down.
But it isn’t enough that he suffers embarrassment and shame—`No fool like an old fool, right?—then confesses and resigns. The sad fact of the matter is that the Director wasn’t a team player and an example has to be made right out the gate of what are going to be a very long four years.
Totalitarians require a show-trial and self-abasement so that he isn’t seen as a hero. He must learn to love Big Brother. `Thoughtcrime does not entail death. Thoughtcrime is death.’ And, “Under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me.”
Like eight days ago, you are making the mistake of thinking that your fellow Americans are wise, that the power elite in side the Beltway are just and that life is fair. If you’re thinking Jimmy Stewart is going to make an appearance and fight and filibuster the entrenched dark powers running the Capitol, I’m sorry to have to say that IMHO, I see no happy ending here.
Petraeus can try save his soul or his a$$ - at least that’s most likely to be on his mind. Hopefully he’s not stupid enough to believe the Zero folks will stand by any agreement and will realize his a$$ is already fried. Then he can try for his soul and try to take them down with him.
Petreaus is above all a political animal. It has been proven with his insane ROE in Afghanistan.
He will speak of his position evolving after reviewing the so called facts on the ground in Libya. He will weave some story to protect the President.
Be prepared to be disappointed.
He was no doubt told “Resign, or lose your Rank, face Court-Martial, and/or lose your pension”....easy pickin’s.
Plus Rush knows how inept the house is.
How can one be confident about the hearings, when these same GOP
house members think Bonehead is the right man for the Speaker?
Chicago politics can easily ruin a 37 year career with loss of all pay and allowances and one year in Levenworth-—can’t do it? I said he couldn’t take my GM bond and give it to the UAW or give Chyrsler to the Italians but he did it-—Chicago politics.
It's easy to understand -- those around the One are "true believers." They have a blood lust for an eventual brutal dictatorship (after they collapse our economic system).
The evil left lives for absolute control over others -- it what gives their evil lives meaning. They have marched through our institutions and are accelerating plans for economic destruction.
Who said what in that diaolog you posted?
By “he” I meant Obama. During the 2nd debate Obama baited Romney with the quote and Candy backed him up.
Plus, I read today that they’re thinking about filing charges against Broadwell; so that may be part of it. Her “career” is also threatened.
Rush said it will be LEAKED that Petraeus said that.
Thanks. Sorry, I did not watch the second debate...or the third. Get it now.
You folks are pegging him for what he really is. He is what we real combat officers in the early 70’s to mid 70’s, who had commanded troops in combat in RVN saw with our new snot nose 2LT’s and 1LT’s in 73-74 like him, plus their teachers-”our BN and BDE CO’s.” These damn LT’s would sit at the O club asking the BN CO how to map out their damn career before they could lead a damn rifle platoon. The LTC’s gladly played mentor just like Betrayus does. Those LTC’s who were mech INF in RVN and claimed they won the war and every damn battle to include Duc Lap, were the biggest bunch of hot air I ever served with. Yes, this damn 4th ID mech INF BN CO in RVN claimed he saved Duc Lap SF Camp. He was an O-6 in 73. He was pure BS. I got up and told every damn officer in the BDE and BN at the breakfast table-”Col-You are a damn LIAR” as the II Corps Mike Force and the 5th Group Mike Force both landed at Ban Me Thout East and camped outside our Project Omega Compound at Ban Be Thout East. They saved Duc Lap in late aug 68-NOT YOU.These mech Inf officer types do not think right. They think like tanker clankers without the damn armor to protect them. No wonder Petraeus has no darn idea how to set up a mortar section as APC’s are different. He disgusts every real Infantry soldier and marine.
Great post Lump and thanks for your service.
He won’t do anything that will put civilians at risk. He won’t do anything that will make things harder for the troops in the field. He will choose not to fight.
No. A retired officer of the United States (as are all military officers) can be stripped of rank and pension only if he faces a general court martial, is found guilty under the UCMJ, and is then dismissed from the service. Even Obama isn't crazy enough to court martial Petraeus, for then every bit of dirty laundry would become public. We'll see tomorrow how honorable a man is Petraeus.
