You cannot argue with fools. You just can’t.
Her entire family lived in a small apartment there, no one had ever owned a car before, food was commonly rationed in the markets. She knows communism, she lived under it.
She's one of the most outspoken people against Socialism and communism that I have ever met
It’s funny but my buddy’s wife is really shy because of her English but once the topic turns to politics, she lights up like a firecracker and she’s nonstop......
What would a former Soviet citizen know about the Soviet Union...duh....
I hate to be a debbie downer, but his accent sounds fake. i think this guy’s not really from the former USSR. that, unfortunately, ruins it for me.
The revolution/McPherson Square brigade just paraded down the street a few minutes ago. Someone has gone out and bought them all red sweatshirts. True colors showing.
Who cares! They believed it! They even claimed North Korea was a great nation and that there was not famine! LOL!
I just did a double-take. I thought you typed BOUGHT a wife until I re-read it!
That is cool!
I had the same thought actually. The kids voice seemed weird as well. I don’t doubt they are that stupid, but something just seemed weird about the video. Funny though.
I know lots of Russians. That's a real accent. If it's not, the guy has spent so much time in Russia and among Russian emigrés mangling English, that he probably knows more about socialism than any of us. And he's a linguistic genius.
I'm kidding around about the last part. The short form is that his accent is authentic. There are too many tiny little diphthongs where they don't belong to be fake. They occur consistently around the same sounds, and precisely in the Russian way. He speaks good English, but not perfect, and his imperfections are the same ones that afflict all Slavic language speakers learning English.
Same goes at my work. I have a co-worker from ukraine. He was in the soviet military and in the Soviet War in Afghanistan. He is the most outspoken guy about socialism, marxism, etc...
He even agrees that we need to get rid of all muslims. He may even be more conservative than me, if that’s even possible. People that come from a socialist or communist nation, never want to go back and always praise capitalism. They know how it works and never want to see it happen again.
Really? It never lapses, and it never varies from metro Odessa (Ukrainian).
I have some friends that came over from Bulgaria. They tell me stories about waiting for hours to buy potatoes. Four years for a TV and it cost a years wages.
Then theres the car, if you wanted a car for your kid you had to order it when he was born so it would be delivered in time for his 18th birthday.
The red headed man picked his nose and then ate it! OMG
Later read
Accents are strange things. when learning a new language you tend to pick up the accent of your teacher. So was his accent fake or just different from what you are used to?
“One of my best friends brought a wife from the Ukraine...”
Isn’t Marina, the girl that does word origins on O’Reilly, from the Ukraine? She could teach me whatever she wanted to, all day long.
