I know lots of Russians. That's a real accent. If it's not, the guy has spent so much time in Russia and among Russian emigrés mangling English, that he probably knows more about socialism than any of us. And he's a linguistic genius.
I'm kidding around about the last part. The short form is that his accent is authentic. There are too many tiny little diphthongs where they don't belong to be fake. They occur consistently around the same sounds, and precisely in the Russian way. He speaks good English, but not perfect, and his imperfections are the same ones that afflict all Slavic language speakers learning English.
I do too and you are right. As a side note, there is an elderly Russian greeter at my local Meijer's store with the same accent.......perfect english but the accent.
