The Curious Absence of Gov Palin from Fox News
07/09/11 | Unseen1

Posted on 07/09/2011 6:35:03 AM PDT by unseen1

It is one of those things that people see but do not see. Gov Palin has not been seen on Fox News now for 34 days. From news reports Gov Palin is one of their most high paid commenters and yet they have chosen to not have her on air for an entire month plus. Her last appearance on Fox News was on June 5th 2011 where she appeared on Fox News Sunday. That appearance was one in which the anchor Chris Wallace called her performance "boffo" and remarked that for the first time he saw Gov Palin as a legitimate candidate for POTUS. After that, she made a brief appearance on Fox Business News channel in the middle of June. That appearance was also regarded as a strong performance.

Since the Fox News Sunday show, Fox has not scheduled Gov Palin on any show on their main news channel. They have done this even though Gov Palin continues to cause ratings to increase when she is on their channel. Per a press conference with Gov Palin during her Bus Tour and after her meeting with Ailes , Palin expressed that she was still under contract with Fox News and that she would let Fox News management know her plans in regards to a POTUS run sometime during the summer. So the question becomes why the absence from Fox news? If she is still under contract and still increases ratings for Fox News why does management not schedule her? Why continue to pay her but not use her? If Fox News thought her a candidate should they not have suspended her contract? Or at the least publicly announced she would not be on air until she made her decision like they did with Newt and Rick Santorum? And if they didn't consider her a candidate should they not have her scheduled to appear? Does Fox News management know something we do not? Does Fox News not want to give her a platform? Is there a movement by Fox News to keep Gov Palin's voice out of the conversation?

There have been reports that Palin and Fox News management have had a falling out. It has also been reported that the Fox News contract makes Palin unable to appear on competing News channels. What we can glean from the absence of Gov Palin from Fox News airwaves is that Fox News is fine with paying Gov Palin for no output. Why would Fox News management continue to pay Gov Palin in this regard? From a business stand point that makes no sense. Employers do not pay employees for no reason. What the reason is is anyone's guess. But never think for a minute there is no reason. Something is going on. A good reporter might ask what that something is.

i think we see things the same way but I’m leaning towards your last point. I think this is foxnews playing hardball. And giving her the option to quit to get her message out.

jury duty is not a 24/7 event. From my understanding jury duty in AK is for 30 days and that is you have to call in everyday or every week to see if they need you. unless you are picked to by ona jury the rest of your time is your own. this would prevent say going on a week long bus tour but not giving a 15 min interview.

She wants people to start second guessing what her motives are?

She is taunting the media to start making up more stuff about her?

It’s summer in Alaska and she’s busy enjoying it. She’s still on jury duty. She’s minding her own business.

I would guess she’s doing a lot of talking with God.

This is hilarious. No one here knows what she is up to leaving everyone to speculate among the many possibilities. Just think how this is driving the Leftists in the MSM nuts! LOL!

agreed. They couldn’t muzzle her. but they can deny her a platform to reach their viewers. viewers that are made up of a majority of gop voters.

I think the absence works for both of them or Palin would have done something about it or fox newes would have. But it only works for both if Palin is running correct?

A. I think you are a reporter/supporter/staff

I wanna play, I wanna play... (Just kidding)

It is quite possible that she has made a decision and that decision is to run. She has informed Fox of her decision and the date she plans on announcing.

The moment Mr. Murdock has knowledge of her decision he has a responsibility to his business to suspend her appearances lest he get involved in all sorts of "equal time" arguments with the other candidates.

the taunting part isn’t something I was thinking about but it does fit to her past actions....

That may be their motivation, but I think Palin can easily use it to her advantage.

Being out of the public eye before beginning the rush of a campaign is good for her, helping to temper overexposure, and I don’t think she gains by contributing any more general punditry on Fox. A break from that role may be good as well.

C. could be.

B. I also think she is running and Fox news knows this and their actions are giving the lie to their statements by their onair pundits that she isn’t running.

A. not a reporter nor on her staff. I am a supporter of gov Palin’s as my past posting history shows.

I would both hope and suspect that rather than spending these weeks out on a boat, she’s studying up for a presidential run while also getting her campaign ducks in a row.

Todd’s got Track and his new wife and probably anyone else he wants to lasso for help on the boat. The better thing might be to let Track run the fishing this year, with Todd just along to help as the experienced elder and the one with the license.

agreed but that would be news would it not? And it would destory all the “she is not running” meme’s going on on fox news. And if ailes or Murdoch was aware of that would they conitnue to allow thier pundits to declare she wasn’t running?

They already gave the Beck spot to some new, stupid, ‘balanced’ panel show.

yeap like I said I think it works for both and that is why neither is rocking the boat about it. But the absence itself I think says a lot about her running. sometimes ommission tells as much as an open declaration.

Didn’t she have to do jury duty and stopped her bus tour? One way to get her out of the public eye, eh?
