In 2010, Democrats got shellacked nationwide by the GOP. Not only did Republicans become the majority party in the House of Representatives, they also made huge gains in state legislatures nationwide.
Naturally, this would cause liberals and progressives to think their world was coming to an end.
But Noam Chomsky, a far left wing professor of linguistics at MIT, says the Republican victory in November may be "a kind of a death knell for the species," according to an article at The Daily Caller.
Chomsky made his feelings known in an interview with The Nation magazine:
Theres other factors like the anger, and the fear and hostility in the country about everything carries over to this, Chomsky said. So if you look at polls, everyone hates Congress. They hate the Democrats. They hate the Republicans even more. They hate big business. They hate banks and they distrust scientists. So why should we believe what these pointy-head elitist are telling? We dont trust anything else. We dont trust them.
He explained the reason a Republican victory signals the end of mankind is because most of those who won do not buy into the idea of man-made global warming.
One of the reasons is because theyre global warming deniers, he said. Almost all that means the powerful House committees, like science and technology and so on, are in hands of people who think theres nothing to it or at least claim that they think that, but what they actually think is another story.
According to Chomsky, the downfall of the entire human civilation will be brought about because the United States is still a superpower.

I thought he died last year.
Yes, but he has mellowed with age, and is using measured, sensible language.
Gee, how could anyone disbelieve in global warming when the entire friggin’ world is going through a cold spell?
Delusional morons, all of them.
The rise of the Tea Party provides the death knell for his profoundly flawed marxist and linguistic theories.
Hyperbole, anyone?
Sounds like Chomsky has become an Establishment Democrat.
Chomsky should stick to talking to chimps
Has a lot in common with them.....
How is that new tone from Tucson working out?
If the GOP sits mixed they are traitors to everyone that voted.
Oh please, can this guy just STFU!
What is it with the global warming crowd that they constantly toss out the word 'denier' to anyone that disagrees? It implies global warming is some sort of religion and not science. You never see discussions of string theory, for instance, where an opponent of the theory is labeled 'a string theory denier'.
As Norm calmly explains, “Everything will be fine, if everyone just SHUTS UP AND LISTENS TO ME AND DOES WHAT I SAY!!!!!!”
Apparently, he is making the common error among the self-proclaimed elites of mistaking skepticism of his pronouncements for rejection of reason.
when the entire friggin world is going through a cold spell?
Silly chile...EVERYONE knows that it gets colder as a part of global warming. Thats settled science, stare decisis,,,debate ovah!
Just like water has to freeze before it boils...
I do believe they think we are as stupid as they think we are.
Chomsky is an idiot....like the rest of them.
Whoo hoo, we know there is hope. Whatever he says, the truth is the opposite.
We need to keep up the good work.
You’d think he would be happy about this, since he hates the human species.
Noam Chomsky has been the “death knell of the species” since his birth.../s =.=
It is rather sad actually.
They try so hard to prove that God isn't necessary when all it takes is one look at their standard bearer Obama to recognize that humanity without God is indeed doomed.
Conservatives didn't sound the death knell for the human race, they just refuse to deny that it tolls for us.
He sounds so mean-spirited. He should be chastised by the press for not heeding Obama’s call for civility, don’t you think?
heh
