Homeless Entrepreneur Hassled by City Bureaucrats
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 6 June 2009 | John Semmens

Posted on 06/10/2009 11:44:44 AM PDT by John Semmens

Larry Moore has been attempting to earn his way off the streets of San Francisco by shining shoes. He used to be one of the homeless drunkards bumming change from pedestrians up until about a year ago when he decided to try to pull himself up by the bootstraps, so to speak.

While he still sleeps under the Bay Bridge, for the last 11 months he’s cleaned up his act—stopped drinking, bathes everyday, dresses neatly and works diligently at his trade. He’s been saving money to rent a room so he can get out of the ranks of the homeless. However, a newspaper story about his efforts to better himself drew the attention of city bureaucrats who are demanding he fork over $500 for a sidewalk vendor permit.

Christine Falvey, spokeswoman for the City, said the demand that Moore pay for a vendor’s permit was “intended to be educational.” “If he were just sleeping, urinating, or begging on the streets we wouldn’t be bothering him,” she pointed out. “But if he’s trying to profit we want a piece of that.”

Falvey argued that Moore wasn’t being singled out. “Anytime anyone tries to make any money in the city they need to cut us in,” Falvey said. “That is the lesson we intend to teach Mr. Moore. If he doesn’t want to play by our rules he can go back to begging and drinking away whatever money he gets.”

Sounds an awful lot like the city of Daytona Beach and the county of Volusia...if you want to even mow lawns for a living you have to go and get what they used to call a business license from BOTH the city where you live AND the county...now they decided to call it a business tax because it was pointed out to them that it didn’t do anything...

True Satire?

For those that missed earlier threads on the matter the story of Larry Moore is true, and yes the City of San Francisco is in fact demanding he pay almost $500.00 for a vendor’s permit as he attempts to turn his life around.

Thanks John Semmens for helping to expose the truth, and the tyranical attitude of the Leftist bureaucracy.

satire? this is how it works today.

how is this different from the US gov't? i sell something for $20, i pay $1 to the payment service, $1 for an affiliation fee, and $10 in federal taxes. depending on what state i live in, i would have to cough up $1-2 in state tax.

that would leave me about $6-7 out of $20. that's fair... NOT!

don't worry... change is coming... the fedgov is going to jump the 50% tax to 65% within 9 months. so instead of $10 it'll be $13.

leaving me with $3-4 out of $20. and if i don't pay it, they will throw me in prison to be sodomized daily.

federal income protection tax

cont’d from my earlier post while i was on break:

There is also a “tangible tax”n businesses here. It basically works like a property tax on the equipment that a business owns. If you own a shovel, you are taxed on it. If you own a CNC machine tool, you are taxed on it. This tax is also one of the unprotected ones. this means that it can go up as much as the government feels like making it go up without any cap on the rate of increase. People who own the home they live in can only see their bill increase by a maximum of 3% per year per state statute. Another of those taxes that goes up without a check to it is the tax on an investment property. As we all know, this means that poor women and minorities are hardest hit by the government’s greed and need to “provide services” or hire “the best people.”
