The government has long claimed its dig was a bust. But a father-son pair of treasure hunters who spent years hunting for the fabled Civil War-era gold — and who led agents to the woodland site, hoping for a finder's fee — suspect the FBI double-crossed them and made off with a cache that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
The newly revealed geophysical survey was part of a court-ordered release of government records on the FBI's treasure hunt at Dent's Run, about 135 miles (220 kilometers) northeast of Pittsburgh, where legend says an 1863 shipment of Union gold was either lost or stolen on its way to the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia.
The technical survey data collected by geophysical consulting firm Enviroscan gave credence to the treasure hunters' own extensive fieldwork at the site — and prompted the FBI to excavate in a massive, secretive operation that lasted for several frigid days in late winter of 2018.
John Louie, a geophysics professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, unconnected to the dig, reviewed Enviroscan’s report at the request of the AP and said the firm’s “methods were very good,” and “their conclusions represent a physically reasonable hypothesis” that gold was buried at the site.

It’s stolen U.S. Gov’t gold, even if it was 1863. They’d snatch it if someone dug it up, at least this guy might get a finder’s fee.
Are you sure? When I see old episodes it smells of government propaganda. A few weeks ago I watched part of an episode of a new FBI program on over-the-air TV. I usually don't do that. It was nothing more than leftist drivel that preyed upon scared pussies. One constitutional right after another was violated on that show in the quest for public safety. The other main theme must have been 'diversity is our strength'. None of the characters were the bit like me, a white Christian conservative male. But it is okay because, you know, it's for public safety. So we are supposed STFU and accept it.
Its probably in an area where they can’t carry out a clandestine dig so they tried to cut a deal. Mr.GG2 and some partners tried that once. Suddenly the contents of a large 100 ft deep cave disappeared over a weekend.
Most of the civil war caches that are discovered are dug up on the sneak and a lot of it has been recovered. The govt would be smart to offer a percentage but they don’t. If they get wind of a recovery they swoop in and take it.
Sorry, not believing there were “nine tons of gold” to begin with.

If it is in fact Rebel Gold than it is more than likely U.S. property. Alot of the buried rebel gold was gold that was stolen from the U.S government.

Even as we watched it when first run, almost everyone knew J. Edgar was running the show.

Why would gold be in NE PA and the mint is in Philadelphia? Most gold in that era was shipped by sea from California. The rebel gold story is also ridiculous. The CSA had very little gold. That was why they had to print so much paper money.
