Professor Defends Postponing Prostrate Cancer Surgery, Says Killing Babies in Abortions is “Essential”

Patients who need knee surgeries or hip replacements may have to suffer in pain for a little while longer, and patients with slow-growing cancer may be forced to wait for the coronavirus to pass, a University of California Davis medical professor told the Daily Dose this week.

But elective abortions? They’re “essential,” said Dr. Michael Wilkes.

Across America, doctors are grappling with which medical procedures are necessary and which ones can wait as the coronavirus outbreak spreads. Wilkes told the Daily Dose that doctors want to be sure there are enough beds, masks, gowns, oxygen and other supplies to treat coronavirus patients and protect medical workers from getting infected.

He said some medical procedures are obviously elective, while others are debatable.

“Orthopedic surgeries, hip replacements, knee replacements … are being postponed. That means that people are going to be in pain for a bit longer. I’ve heard about prostate cancer surgery. Prostate cancer is a very slow growing cancer. But people get scared and they want it out,” he said.

In his mind, however, elective abortions that kill unborn babies are not up for debate.

“There’s no debate around the need for pregnancy terminations. These are essential. They’re obviously time-sensitive medical procedures,” Wilkes argued.

He criticized Texas, Ohio and several other states for including elective abortions in their temporary bans on non-essential medical procedures.

“If it’s choice, then these states are saying ‘choice means elective,’ and they shouldn’t be done,” Wilkes said.

Despite Wilkes’ claims, women do not need to abort their unborn babies to be healthy. Abortions kill unborn babies and put mothers at risk. Common abortion complications include infections, blood clots, hemorrhaging and an incomplete abortion. Abortion risks include future preterm births, breast cancer, suicide, anxiety/depression and death. And it is not true that abortions are safer than childbirth. Mothers who cannot get abortions are not unhealthy as a result. They become mothers of newborn babies.

Recently, medical groups representing more than 30,000 doctors in America emphasized that abortions are not “essential” or “urgent,” and abortion facilities that continue to operate during the pandemic are being “medically irresponsible.”

Yet, Wilkes claimed the killing of unborn babies in abortions must continue.

“Abortions don’t waste hospital beds. They use very little personal protective equipment. And the majority of these procedures are done outside of hospitals,” he claimed. “This is not the time for simply politics to enter into affecting women’s lives.”

But some Planned Parenthoods actually are asking for personal protective equipment donations – at a time when hospitals, which are working to save lives, not kill them, are in desperate need of them.

Plus, politics do affect everyone’s lives. Right now, states are issuing all kinds of restrictions on people’s lives because of the coronavirus. Stay-at-home orders and restrictions on non-essential surgeries, as even Wilkes admitted, mean some people will be forced to suffer in pain even longer until they can get basic medical care.

There is nothing essential about killing an unborn baby other than having a dead baby, rather than a live one. Society should be focused on doing all it can to save lives – and that includes both the born and unborn.

Of course a certain kind of man would say abortion is essential surgery. It’s essentially to guarantee that the male entity never has to man up and be a father.

Prostate cancer is not always slow growing.

However, a prostate cancer patient is often given Lupron in advance of surgery in order to shrink the prostate to make surgery easier.

Even if you are opposed to abortion, which I am, doesn’t it make sense that, IF a woman is going to get one, it occur as early as possible in the process? The longer the fetus develops, the more the possibility of its experiencing suffering increases and the more medically dangerous for the pregnant woman the procedure becomes. Miscarriages, whether natural or induced, are tragic. But the degree of tragedy increases with increased length of pregnancy. In my opinion, an elective abortion does not qualify as emergency surgery, but it is a time sensitive matter. IF it’s going to happen, delaying it only makes it worse.
