On Thursday, the Bible will go on display for the first time at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill.
The 16th president was given the Holy Book on June 16, 1864, during a rare wartime trip to Philadelphia raising money for wounded soldiers, where Lincoln donated 48 signed copies of the Emancipation Proclamation that were sold for fundraising. He was gifted the 18-pound, gilted Bible decorated with the words "faith," "hope," and "charity" by the hospital that treated wounded and ill soldiers during the Civil War.
The cover of the Bible reads: “Presented to Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, by the Ladies of the Citizens Volunteer Hospital of Philadelphia.”

The attacks on Trump are reminiscent of those on Lincoln. Only Alexander Hamilton was subject to such unjust abuse before Trump.
There are glimmerings of hope that the electorate is recognizing the ring through the nose by which it has been led into disaster, the biggest of which is Illegalism.

Pawn Stars host Rick Harrison offers $150 for the Lincoln Bible. “I’d offer more,” Harrison said, “but the book is in pretty rough condition.”
Yes the LORD was his strength not just through the Civil War, but a slew of trials in his personal life as well.
Harrison added, “You’d be lucky you’re getting $150. The resale value on these old worn Bibles is virtually nil. So even if Abe Lincoln or Dave Lincoln owned it, I’m still losing money on the deal.”
The Lincoln family Bible he would have read as a youngster is on display at his birthplace in Kentucky.
It's worth noting also that the United States of America in the 19th Century was arguably the most Biblically literate of any society the world has ever known...and this included many slaves.
Even just looking at the birth registry attests to this, with so many newborns being given names like: Abraham (Lincoln), or Thaddeus, Abner, Ebenezer, Amos, or in the case of females: Tabitha, Ruth, Jemima...
In other words: tributes to every crevice of Scripture including the obscure, and not only the usual Matthews, Marks, and Johns and James.
As Lincoln noted in his Second Inaugural:
Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces; but let us judge not that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered; that of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes...
Indeed, these people were STEEPED in the Word of God. And no doubt: the Civil War tried and tested the faith of many.
Cool bit of history, but I don’t see how a bible gifted to someone that lacks annotations or notes or whatnot offers a clue about anything except he was given a bible, he kept it, and his wife gave it away.

The Christian fruit of Lincoln's life is just that... he bore much fruit for the kingdom, IMHO...

Was a great steward of the office of the Presidency and labored over every executive decision in agony
Remembered God in his public speeches... but not God in name only... Lincoln invoked the righteous judgments and “logic” of Christ in his writings and speeches.
Even in his extemporaneous remarks after the victories of Vicksburg and Gettysburg around the fourth of July of 1863, Lincoln spoke with wonder about that great 19th century miracle of how both Jefferson and Adams died on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration, on July 4 1826... and Lincoln wondered if the Gettysburg/Vicksburg “victories” weren't also a sign from the Lord.
Great. But none of this is shown from some random bible.
I doubt if he used this big mule choking Bible (18 pounds) other then for display, to prop open a door, for a paper weight and or stuff like that.

Interesting! Broad and Washington is the site of current day "Lincoln Square", named after the old railroad shed where Lincoln's body laid in rest after his assassination.
Just walked through there today.
How many times I passed that site going and coming from McDonalds or the Academy of Music in the 30+ years I lived up there. Never knew what had taken place there.
God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is "No."...........
