If you have a car, keep it full of gas. You can always go to the car just to warm up and charge our cellphones and laptops. But basically, you are going to have a cold and miserable time of it until the power comes back on. I got through it by reading books and getting a good fire going in the fireplace.
In recent years, when a storm was coming, I would reserve a hotel room like at a Marriott Courtyard or Hampton Inn. That way you have a warm place to go to if your neighborhood loses power as well as free breakfasts. You can always cancel the room last minute if you don't lose power and the hotels don't give you that much a hard time about it because during power outages, they have plenty of customers. Not only those without power but all those utility crews that come up the Eastern seaboard.
Did you know that utility companies now send in crews from out of state during storm situations? During widespread power outages, I see crews from pretty much every state on the East Coast. You can tell from the license plates on their trucks.
You know, it’s interesting that people prep for hurricanes but not winter weather, and yet you guys are far more likely to get slammed with a nor’easter, than you are a hurricane.
Y’all really ought to prep for winter. Make sure you have a generator on hand and run it a few times a year to keep it in prime. Clean it in the fall and make sure you all have gas for it.
If you have a wood stove or fireplace, make sure you have plenty of dry wood in a location you won’t have to dig it out and thaw it out in.
Stock up on some essentials and don’t count on a trip to the store should bad weather happen. The shelves will all be stripped bare in no time flat.
Then you can sit back and watch the show.
Oh, and watch the weather forecasts. You can often have several days warning and be able to prep before the crowds catch wind of it.

I love snow and even considered driving out to see it, but boy do I HATE ice. Prayers for those who don’t have a lot of snow driving time and power supply. Kids without coats, hats, and boots (socks work for mitties). There are always some kids without coats.
Beer and cigarettes prep easy enough. Don’t understand the last minute rush.

:) here in NC we have some Crepe Myrtle across the street that just turned red. Y’all may also want to take the “mini-ice age” data into consideration. At least it’s dry up in AK, eh?
I was afraid y’all would get the ice. I hate ice. Can’t imagine living in the mountains with ice. Went thru a really bad storm in MO. Beautiful after but scary hearing the trees breaking and transformers exploding. Long night. Over an inch of ice.
Usually winter snowfall is my favorite walking time. So quiet! A “be still and know that I am God” time. Will be praying.

The snow/sleet is supposed to hit us around 5 a.m. Sunday morning. DOT has been spraying brine since yesterday.

Thanks so much. We usually have a severe ice storm every few years. Last one we had brought down a tree limb on top of our house. I was sitting in my recliner when I heard that snap. Ran to the back room. Lucky there was no damage, other than my undies.
I'm on the desert side of those mountains and at sunrise, the fresh snow up there has been gorgeous.
I see the forecast has some precipitation out here in Southern Cal next weekend which means the Carolinas and Va should get more next week.
I am wintering over out in preparation for a trip up north to Alaska next summer. I brought my snow skis for the trip this time.
Any backup power supply? Gas? Where do you live? I’m in VA and if I can help.
Likewise. 38° north of Atlanta, raining. Apparently will snow briefly tomorrow, but that’s just making an unpleasant day a bit messier.
