Here in eastern TN, it looks like a lot of snow starting tonight about midnight and ending around 8 a.m.

Retired, so we can stay in and see the beautiful snow from the chairs by the fireplace.

Woke up to about 6” windy, 28 and coming down hard, forecast is over 12” plus icing on the back end late tonight, around .2”. Pretty as it is in the trees, I’m hoping that wind knocks it down before the ice. Not looking forward to a power outage in the middle of all this.

Wet winter is worse than dry winter. Although I have seen flip-flops here in NC all winter, too, BUT it was only a short walk from the car into the store. I bet their homes are heated to 78*. Mine? right now 67. It’s raining and cold. No bad weather, just bad clothes.

I worked with a guy from Minnesota. Their winter is my kind of winter just as the Texas summer is my kind of summer. Dry heat is much more bearable. Was down there for a week (long ago) and it was the first time I enjoyed the heat. I have considered moving down (favorite accent and lots of horses) and my aunt and uncle loved it (Army) but it hasn’t happened yet. Wyoming or Alaska are my top state choices as to where I would like to die. LOL

Maybe a foot here. Hard to tell because its drifted. Sleet on top is firm enough to hold birds who are eating feed I tossed out. The squirrels are SOL.

Watching the weather channel guys in Asheville and Boone. There is no end to the inanity of their commentary.

“Look at this tree. One side is totally dry and the other side is wet. This shows the prevailing winds”

They brought in an “auto expert” from buffalo NY to discuss the hazards of front wheel drive in snow. She was close to a ringer for Marissa Torme in My Cousin Vinny complete with NY accent. I wished Cantore had called her Miss Vito at least once.

the hazards of front wheel drive in snow

While you drive somewhat differently with front wheel drive in snow/ice, the only hazard is attempting to overdrive your safe distance. I intentionally sought out front wheel drive cars over rear wheel when in New England and was very glad I did. I think the only "hazard" is being overconfident and letting your guard down when conditions dictate otherwise.

My Mom in Grayson Co., VA has at least 15” so far and still coming down hard. She lives at the base of Iron Mountain.

At 40 and above, the door is cracked for the furbabies and the heater is off. I’d rather brave the cold than have to let them in and out and in and out and in and out every 5 minutes.

Mears :" I have lived in Massachusetts since the 30s
-——I find this entire thread hysterical-—it IS December."

Yes, it IS December in Taxachusettes.
But I remember when in my mid-twenties, driving down to Florida after an overnight in Gathersburg Maryland
where the Marylanders had 4 inches of snow at 8:30 AM, and our car was breaking new ground through the snow
- there was absolutely no traffic(!)
There were no snowplows on the road, the only plowing occurred at the local hospital "Emergency Department" driveway entrance,
and all the locals were waiting for the snow to melt away (!), and that was only 4 inches.
Not all of us have known the benefit of traffic circles, "Frost heaves", driving Route #2 on a holiday,
driving behind a Conga-line of snowplows going 30 mph with no opportunity to pass, or enduring a "Nor'easter".
It's all in what kinda of weather you are used to experiencing - for these 13 million folks, it's a catastrophe.
