TUCSON, Arizona -- It was a sad showing for a 6-year-old boy's birthday party in Arizona.

Teddy's mom says they invited 32 of his classmates to a pizza party for his birthday in Tucson Sunday afternoon.

But no one showed up at Peter Piper Pizza restaurant.

Social media was flooded with messages of support, and Teddy's story caught the attention of some big names in the sports world.

The Phoenix Suns invited Teddy to come watch Wednesday night's game against the Lakers.

The Suns tweeted, "How about we celebrate with thousands at our place! Tickets to Wednesday's #SunsVSLakers game are all yours Teddy! Talk soon!"

Young people can be so rude about RSVP’s.

You mentioned weddings. I have a 36 year old niece who has decided she wants a “destination wedding” at an expensive resort north of Cancun. It’s a three day deal which will probably end up costing me and Mr RooRoo $6000 (for the plane trip, hotel, etc.) Mr. RooRoo is furious and has announced that he’s not going to go.

I don’t know what to do. The only reason I think I should go is for my sister’s sake, not so much because of my niece. We can afford the trip, but it looks like I will be going alone. I don’t see Mr. Roo Roo changing his mind. :0(

I cannot begin to tell you of my distaste for destination weddings.

Selfishness beyond belief.

I can only wonder if the parents are Trump people in a sea of leftists. That would make sense.

I’d have to switch my kid’s school so I didn’t just say FU to every other parent every single day.

I am so cynical. This seems so fake....especially putting it out on social media.

I can understand Mr. RooRoo’s point. :-)

It’s heartbreaking when no one shows up to a child’s birthday party. It’s quite another thing when you have to pay thousands of dollars for a flight and hotel room to attend a wedding. :-)

don’t go!!! you and the Mr. should go somewhere together with that $$. ( this is NONE of my business, BTW)
My nephew got married, we went to the wedding, cost us 1500.00 for a Friday night to Sunday AM. I saw the kid in the receiving line. No visits to the table, he was hanging with his/her friends. We could have stayed home and TOLD him we were there, he would not have known the difference.
if it had been 6k i would not have even considered going.
Just my 2 cents!!!

I feel like I read this story a few months ago.

Does this happen a lot?

I wonder if people realize they can pretend to have a “party”, take a sad picture of a boy alone, and get free stuff.

LOL I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one around here who is PO’ed about expensive destination weddings.

I’m sure my niece doesn’t have a CLUE about how inconsiderate she is being to family. Frankly, an expensive destination wedding should be just for the bride and groom, maybe the parents, best man and maid of honor—that’s it!! It’s too much money to expect family and friends to spend.

As long as I’m griping, here’s more: I recently threw a very nice 50th anniversary party for my parents. I probably spent $4000 on rentals, flowers, decorations, food and booze.

I have five other siblings, all of whom could afford to chip in something to help out with the cost. I asked each sibling if they could contribute two or three hundred dollars each. All of them said they would and only one of them did.

This is typical selfishness on their part and they are all “compassionate” Trump-hating Rats. Mehhh.....

I am old and old fashioned, of course but I think it was foolish for parents (or anyone) to start planning birthday parties away from the home. Once they started having them at commercial places which cost a lot more than “at home” would, every parent felt OBLIGATED to do it whether or not they could afford it. The commercial ones just grew and grew out of all proportion with the parents of the birthday boy or girl forking out $$$ to feed every relative that accompanied the invited guest. In days gone by - yesteryear, in fact - children were invited to a home party, they were delivered to the home party, the kids all had a grand time and the kids were all picked up at a designated ending time.

Who says the old ways weren’t the best? I remember attending home parties at different homes in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s..but of course, no commercial places were available then and certainly no one ever dreamed they would come along in later years. And on top of all those crazy “old” customs, pizza hadn’t even been invented yet!!!

Our daughter planned the first few birthday parties for our grandson exactly like other parents did - and I told her they would get out of hand and they did. Now it’s back to invites to the home for games, pizza, cake/ice cream and no one complains and no relatives of the invited kids attend! It only takes a few to start the reverse trend.

I don’t understand why so many people feel that they need to advertise everything about their personal lives on the Internet.

There’s something very sad about it.

Especially when so many sink close to a nice down-payment on a little house on the wedding shindig - and wind up divorced within a few years ;-)
