Deputies watched dogs 'eating rib cage' of Virginia woman, 22, during mauling, sheriff says
Fox News ^ | December 19, 2017 | Katherine Lam

It’s still unclear what led to the deadly mauling, but a man who used to work with the Stephens said the pet owner loved the canines and was very experienced working with animals, according to WTVR. Other people also said the dogs were social, passive and had a “significant bond” with Stephens...Agnew confirmed the medical examiner said Stephens was on her “menstrual period,” but added: “But I don’t think there’s any way we can definitively say what caused the attack.”

“They are pit bulls. They attack. As this situation shows, there is no pit bull that can be raised not to be a ticking attack bomb. And once they attack, you can’t get them off the victim.”

And yet another reason why I’m more of a cat person.

1. The owner had stopped taking care of the pups.
2. They were left at her dads in a cramped cage.
3. According to the article the dad did not take care of the dogs ie not feed, water, exercise because he did not view them as his responsibility.
4. The owner did not take care of them either, although the article stated that she visited them, apparently not on a regular basis.
5. The father did not contact the authorities until his daughter was missing for 2 days. There is something wrong with the man.
6. If the owner was so badly torn it was impossible to identify bites, how could they know what actually killed her?
7. Dogs eat deceased owners when they are hungry. A policeman friend told us that when a person dies in the home and their dogs do not have access to food, they eventually start eating the deceased. He said he has seen dogs like pomeranians and chis munching on their deceased senior owner as avidly as medium to large dogs.
8. Though the authorities claim they were raised for fighting, the article did not state why the authorities believed this to be true.
9. Though the article stated that the owner weighed 125 lbs and was 5ft3in and the dogs each weighed the same as she, I am willing to be that to be an erroneous statement. She looked like a lightweight in the pictures.

My assessment is that those dogs were in a neglected and abusive situation, and that the owner probably loved them but she had personal problems.

Whatever happened we will never know for certain. The article does not give enough information,ie whether they were altered dogs, leaving the field open for speculation for folks with anti pit bull bias.

Under the circumstances, I am not surprised that they were euthanized.

However, I do believe that there is more to the story. Just as there is more to the anti-Trump articles sensationalized in the media.

Well, they never did this before. I mean isn’t that what they always say?

"Hornet Owner Stung To Death By Pet Hornets"

Neighbors remarked, "they were such peaceful hornets." It is still unclear as to what led a hive of pet hornets to attack their owner.

Had a pit bull roaming my neighborhood, the dog went after someone walking and that person shot the dog.

The dogs owner called the police on the person who shot their dog and the cops told them to basically pound sand because there is a leash law and the dog was aggressive.

I bet those dogs also had crazy eyes as they were mauling their master to death.

“It’s unclear”.

This is just the new code term for 'we all know why, it's just that we don't want to admit it.'

Pit bulls were bred to be ferocious attack dogs. If you think about it, the pit bulls that attack and maul are actually behaving normally for the breed. It's the ones that are gentle and friendly who are acting abnormally.

Okay what happened? She was mauled to death, and that area of Virginia doesn’t have mountain lions or killer bears running around. If it was another person wouldn’t her dogs have protected her and torn the hell out of someone?

Face the facts, the dogs turned on her for some reason. She might have went to correct one of them for something and they went off on her like these so-called peaceful beasts tend to do if you’ve read any stories of such incidents from the past.

My sympathy card is just about used up for pit bull owners.

My guess is that she used to tell people about how good and gentle her dogs were. That it’s all about how you raise them .. yada, yada, ......

Pit Bulls require a very Alpha responsible owner.
Maybe there should be back ground checks and permits required?
My family had one once when I was a kid, dad shot it dead after it tried to clamp on my little sisters arm.
If was traumatic for me but taught me a lesson on absolutes.
I remember being more confused about dads tears than my own feelings.
Never saw dad with tears again.

Absolutes are much needed in this land.

It is not just American Staffordshire Terriers(pit bulls) that are natural born killers. ALL canines are pack animals.
When you put two dogs together they form a pack. They will act differently than when they are by themselves.

Pit bulls, Cane Corsos , Akitas, Pyraneese, Malamutes are all big dogs capable of killing humans. However, most of these other breeds are not bred in as much volume as Pit bull terriers are. They are expensive and therefore less likely to end up in poorer neighborhoods.

Also, ALL Terriers are bred to kill. However, what most were bred to kill are vermin(ie rats). Hence the name rat terrier is the name given to a Jack Russell Terrier. It is unlikely that a Jack Russell Terrier could eat you.

I saw two of my friends Chesapeake Bay Retrievers kill his neighbors cat once. They were great family friendly dogs. When they were together as a pack they went into a frenzy and killed it.

I have seen my own Beagle females fight over a bone. I had to throw water on them to get them apart. If I had tried to grab either one, I am sure I would have ended up in the ER.

I lived in a large apt. complex outside of L.A. that allegedly banned pit bulls and related breeds. Within a couple days of moving in I counted at least half a dozen pits. As long as one tells (most) property managers what they want to hear (”My dog is a....Lab-Ridgeback mix....yeah, that’s the ticket”), the rules are easily broken.

The existence of pit bulls and their (often, but not always) head-case owners is one of many reasons to carry a concealed firearm. ...and know how to use it.

I’m an animal lover, but perhaps it’s time to let this breed die out.
Now before you Pit lovers get your panties in a wad, there’s a difference between rounding them up and killing them and simply sterilizing them and making them illegal to keep and breed.
