Its still unclear what led to the deadly mauling, but a man who used to work with the Stephens said the pet owner loved the canines and was very experienced working with animals, according to WTVR. Other people also said the dogs were social, passive and had a significant bond with Stephens...Agnew confirmed the medical examiner said Stephens was on her menstrual period, but added: But I dont think theres any way we can definitively say what caused the attack.

SOMETHING is not adding up with this story. In the middle of a walk in the woods when NO ONE can see THAT’S when the dogs go nuts and kill and eat her. How CONVENIENT.
Not at the beginning of the walk. Not at the end of the walk. NO walk before. Just this ONE time when no one can see. Middle of the woods.
Not buying it.
Reminds me of Timothy Snackwell.
Yes, the guy who screamed I love you to the grizzly bears.
The foolish was large on that one!!
I had to shoot one that attacked my corgi about 5 years ago. It was running loose, and silently approached us from the side and clamped down and had my dog by the back of the neck and was vigorously shaking him. I shot the pitbull twice with my .38 and it still survived. At least it dropped my dog (who survived with minor punctures to his skin. The fact that he had on two collars probably prevented the pitbull from killing him).
Lately I've been seeing a hispanic guy from the neighboring subdivision walking a rambunctious pitbull. I won't walk my dog if I see them out there. I have no use for the pitbull breed.
That people still don't want to accept this fact is utterly amazing.
Every detail in this story is a retort to all the Pitbull apologists. They were loved and treated well. The dogs were "passive" and social. They "bonded" with their owner. She was an experienced dog handler. Every detail provides empirical evidence that -- It. is. the. breed.
The audio of him and his friend
Is bone chilling!
A few years ago, an older woman I knew had her two Boxer dogs attack without warning and almost kill her in her basement while she was washing clothes. They were family dogs with no prior problems.
My ex husbands family raised pit bulls and fought them. I never understood the reason for pit bulls and would never trust one because of the insanity that is bred into them..
I will stick to my cocker spaniels. Not man eaters.

“A 7-year-old boy was attacked and killed by two pit bulls in Massachusetts after apparently entering an enclosed area Saturday, officials said...Lowell is located about 30 miles north of Boston.”
Every detail in this story is a retort to all the Pitbull apologists. They were loved and treated well. The dogs were "passive" and social. They "bonded" with their owner. She was an experienced dog handler. Every detail provides empirical evidence that -- It. is. the. breed.
This deserves repeating. Exactly correct. None of those apologist will reply even though we know they are reading this thread.
She could have made the mistake of getting in the middle of these dogs snipping at each other. Simple as that and they could turn on her.
He was whistling as he passed the graveyard, praying they wouldn’t attack.
Wonder how many people were terrified when they encountered her on walks
wifey went for a walk with our little dog on a visit to California back country. She came back an hour later white as a ghost and shaking, 3 “big mean dogs” had ran after them barking and she screamed and screamed for help, they stopped (heard a whistle I think) and ran back the other way. She said she knew they were going to die and we would never have found them.
I think the problem is the culling of the breed for fighting over so many generations. There’s just no telling when the temperament historically cultivated will pop out again, no matter how a particular dog has been raised or has behaved so far.
I understand all the arguments about how any dog can ‘go off’ and maul, and that many people have perfectly behaved ones. But I think that this is a particularly unpredictable breed that we could do without. It’s been outlawed in my county; I’m not sure what reasons they used officially, but the fact that they became popular with young punks who wanted intimidating dogs, and abused them to make them mean, was probably part of it.
Not buying it.
Me Neither.
It was Bigfoot.
If they are so intelligent, then they have no excuse.
Not offering excuses, just a possible explanation. Humans are high on the intelligence scale, and look how dangerous and irrational they can be.
I agree with you. I love dogs, and think that a large part of dog behavior is from training (or lack thereof).
But there are some breeds that are innately and genetically like a loaded weapon that I do not trust not to go off (no matter how well trained) and pits are at the top of the list.
Give me my Labradors any day.

Especially the little baby ones. They are just so adorable.
