Video shows monster-sized mystery cat in MississippiĀ field

"I can assure you this is not a house cat," Sluder said in a Facebook post. "It looks to be the same size as a medium to large dog."

Wildlife officials have said that big cats like panthers or cougars have been extinct in Mississippi for 100 years due to habitat changes and hunting, but people claim to have spotted the animals over the past 30 years . "Most biologists credit these sightings to misidentification, released exotic pets or (rarely) animals passing through from places like Texas where lions still live," the Mississippi State University Extension Service says.

No word what species this giant feline might be.

We could just send environmental activists out to photograph them. Sooner or later one would survive and bring back closeups.

A hunter on Sideling Hill in MD felt like he was being watched and turned around just in time to see a mountain lion coiled to pounce on him, from a nearby low tree branch.

He was *lucky*.

But we don’t have them here.

Despite there being six within 100 miles of me (that I am aware of), NY state absolutely INSISTS that mountain lions do not exist in NY state.

But hey, hearing something that sounds like a screaming woman outside your jobsite late at night on a weekend, then seeing a large brown cat with black tips to ears walk by making that noise, naaaaah, no mountain lions here!

Coffee only makes zombies, zombie deer, and other effects.

“I have a dear little girl, not quite 5 pounds, who is ferocious, bites, scratches, etc etc...but she's also adorable, cuddly, and dear. And so it goes with felines.”

Yep. I agreed to watch a friend's cat while she was away on vacation. Two weeks. When she dropped the cat off she told me that her cat was very shy. The cat wouldn't come anywhere near me initially, so I just tried to be soothing when I talked to her, and not scare her. This was a weekend, and I was sitting on the far right end of the couch, and the cat jumped up on the left end. We looked at each other, and I again tried to be soothing to her, and then reached my hand out. She immediately took some of my flesh with her and did a number on my arm.

I didn't react, and just figured she needed more time. I went to bed, and left the door open, and then woke up at about 1:00 am, as the cat was rolling her plastic ball around under my bed - on a hardwood floor, bouncing it off the walls. I tried to get her out from under the bed, now at ~1:20am, and again got sliced up.

Finally, I went to sit on the couch, and eventually she came out of the room. I ran back into my bedroom, closed the door, and tried going back to sleep. After falling asleep again I was again awoken - this time by her scratching my door and meowing. So, I opened the door (after putting her plastic ball out of reach) and went back to bed. As I was trying to fall asleep I heard ripping sounds, turned on the light, and saw that she was climbing the drapes and was about four feet off the floor. So, I put several pairs of socks over my hands, up my arms, and took her off the drapes (all the while she was trying to again slice me up). I put her in the bathroom, with the litter box, food, and some toys, and closed the door.

I probably fell back asleep by about 4 am, and had to be up early. When I went into the bathroom the towels had been shredded and were all over the floor, along with the litter. I never lost it with her, but it was a very long two weeks. When my friend got back, I got a nice paperweight as a gift. My conclusion was that cats can be nuts.

Yea, the DEC has been saying that forever about NYS, I’m sure they’re the ones who reintroduced to the state. All Government, All Liars, All the time.

That brings back childhood memories.

My big, husky cousin and I were out riding our horses one evening and we were passing the ancient trash dump in the woods near my parents’ house.

One of those damn things *shrieked* and we freaked out.

So what did he do?

He kicked his horse and took off, which made my psycho mare bolt, scraping me off on a low hanging fox grape vine that was growing across the path.

There I was, with the shrieking thing nearby, sitting on my arse, watching him *and* my horse hightail it for home.

Nice.

Yeah I apologize for leaving Maryland off my eastern states list!

And why wouldn’t they be back or their numbers increasing? The deer population and other prey is exploding, the predator population will respond likewise. Whether this is a growth in a survivor remnant few or immigrants from the West or Florida what does it matter, they’re back!

Someone will probably have to be killed before it’s acknowledged.

Same as the damn coyotes and bears.

To “control the deer population”.

Pfffft.

They all much prefer calves, lambs and pets.

Easier to catch and kill.

Yeah, I used to do a small in process brief to new employees at my jobsite.
“IF you are here at night, and you hear a ‘woman’ screaming or you see a LARGE brown cat, go back inside IMMEDIATELY.”
The same idiots I warned, tried to get their picture taken with the black bear that wandered through.
*facepalm*

Been very wet this year in Louisiana and wildlife are breeding like rabbits and spreading.

Yowch.
That had to be fun.
My jobsite’s “girl” would wander into the truck yard when we weren’t active after dark on the weekends and make all manner of noise, from obvious complaints about the décor to that awful “woman scream” noise.
She hasn’t been around in a year or two since they built a new warehouse nearby.
Or, at least, she hasn’t been close to my jobsite.

Our deer population is for crap.

They’re dying from that ‘mad deer’ disease spreading down from PA and lots of hunters go to WV and VA to hunt, now.

The massive herds I used to see all the time are now a scattering of does, here and there.

Frankly, I’d be nervous about eating MD venison.
