Despite there being six within 100 miles of me (that I am aware of), NY state absolutely INSISTS that mountain lions do not exist in NY state.

But hey, hearing something that sounds like a screaming woman outside your jobsite late at night on a weekend, then seeing a large brown cat with black tips to ears walk by making that noise, naaaaah, no mountain lions here!
Video link is to the noise I’m describing by the way, not my vid.
I’m blaming your “sightings” on your coffee.
:D
Yea, the DEC has been saying that forever about NYS, I’m sure they’re the ones who reintroduced to the state. All Government, All Liars, All the time.
The first time I heard it was during a pitch black night in a mountain canyon of Nevada. I was sleeping in the bed of my truck (that had a shell). My female co-worker (we're field biologists) was sleeping on a cot about 50 yards away in a dry wash. After I heard the screams, I opened the shell back lid and called out in the darkness: Lisa... Is that you?
Silence, then "No!"
I grabbed my buck knife and went and got her. She set up her cot right next to my truck. She could have slept in the cab, but she insisted on staying outside. (Just so you know, sharing the bed of the truck with me was not an option. I'm happily married and wish to stay that way.)
The mountain lion I heard screaming a few years ago was similar but louder, more high pitched and longer. One of the most terrifying sounds I ever heard. That is one reason I do not wander around our property or neighborhood at night.
Nope, not possible for any other lion. Apparently the only one who could read a map took it with him.
