Star Trek has remained a ship somewhat adrift, especially since the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise was canceled before its fifth season. When J.J. Abrams brought his kinetic, alternative timeline to life in 2009, the long-running saga received a shot in the arm. Since then, the franchise, now split between Paramount (film) and CBS (small screen), continues to seek out for the right vehicle to truly set the stars ablaze in the 21st century.
Star Trek Into Darkness and Beyond were both exciting and generally well-received entries but fell victim to diminishing returns at the box office when Beyonds meager haul seemed to call into question the fiscal viability of a fourth entry in the Kelvin timeline. Nevertheless, the saga remains wildly popular, with CBS unveiling its first streaming endeavor, Star Trek: Discovery, at the end of September. Longtime franchise creative Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), whos involved with the latest show as a writer and producer, recently revealed a new project. Although he hasnt disclosed the true nature of his undertaking, he did suggest that fans can assume its a feature film.
At this point, production on a fourth feature remains uncertain, at least according to Zachary Quinto (alternative Spock). Meyer could be exploring new avenues for the next Kelvin feature, but he may also be drafting a cinematic concept for the Prime timeline. Either way, is Star Trek ready to return to its classic continuity?

"Did you say, Kelvan"?
Yes they should find a way. I read the Star Trek books along with the Star Wars ones. Both story lines were written by World class authors, and made both universes worthy of going down in history as two of the best science fiction series ever. And I’ve been reading sci-fi for 38 years or so. Get the Temporal police back into both universes!
The best Star Trek movie ever made was Galaxy Quest.
And deliver lines with _passion_, not monotones.
Still better than most of the Star Wars crap.
How about a movie from the "Mirror Mirror" alternate universe, where the characters were bad versions of themselves, and where Spock had a goatee?
Other than that, I think the time period has played itself out, go another 600 years into the future.
....But whos going to play Cyrano Jones?...
Net Gingrich?
“The Captain needs to be an @$$kicker.”
A whole new series based on Captain Finnegan.
(Kirk’s Drunken Irish classmate)
The show was somewhat tedious but had a tolerable story line which only a hard-core fan would love. However, when they had the pro-gay episode about the Vulcan mind meld, even I had to bail out the nearest air lock.
Make the Faux Trek Hipster Faggotry go away.
I sometimes thing the world would be better off it “Star Trek” had lasted two seasons then disappeared.
BTW, I am a fan.
Yes, but the original was liberal tripe while Ne,t Generation was liberal bovine excrement
“The best Star Trek movie ever made was Galaxy Quest.”
Absolutely!
Funniest movie i’ve seen since Monty Python. Totally underrated!
They should make a sequel!
And a prequel!
Faggot doesn’t sell.
They should bring back that deadly megaphone.
I was scared of cheerleaders for several years.
Fortunately, I got over it.
WTFC!
He does have the look down.
ah yes, Cyrano Jones and the tribbles.
Cyrano and Harry Mudd were some offbeat characters from the original series.
Rick Berman killed Star Trek
