An American Airlines jet made an emergency landing Wednesday after hitting a deer a leaking fuel onto a runway in Charlotte, N.C.
The American Eagle plane was flying 44 passengers and four crew members to Gulfport, Miss., at about 12:15 p.m. when the CRJ-700 struck a deer during takeoff, according to a statement from American Airlines. It immediately returned to the airport.
Before landing, the crew declared an emergency and flew the plane over personnel on the ground to see if there was any damage, according to the Charlotte Observer.
"5320, you are showing you're trailing some kind of vapor or something off the right wing," an air traffic control worker told the flight crew, according to the Observer. "We copy and we understand," the flight crew replied. View image on Twitter

My children’s mom died from hitting a deer on a motorcycle- they need to be thinned in some areas
Selfridge ANG base here in S.E. Michigan had problems years ago with deer. At that time they had to be taken out. I don't know what the current situation is but there are deer still on the base and you can see them in the evening when driving past the land on I-94.........
LOL. Was a cheese-leaking moose. Media can’t get anything right.
Ask around, there’s many opinions out there of what works.
Not even a little.
My last deer strike was in 2014. Did $8000 damage to my brand new truck. Luckily, I had time to hit the brakes and got down to 65 mph.
How much fuel does a deer typically hold? It looks a lot was spilled.
I was thinking about Selfridge. I lived near there until moving to the East coast (all praise and glory to Jenny Grandstand who forced me to leave.)
About 10-12 years ago, the herd disappeared, seemingly overnight. You could see hundreds of deer off I-94 on base property.
I think they brought in a few sharpshooters and gave them full ammo boxes.
You'd think after the first two times, he'd learn to keep out of the way.
Keep trying, you’ll get him eventually.
No, they don’t.
There are too darn many deer. They need to depopulate in the areas where there is high traffic... does, fawns bucks... everything..
Personally, I have hit 5 deer for the past 27 years that I have lived in Kansas.
I am sure the auto body repair lobbyists work the legislature hard to keep things as status quo.

Sorry to hear that. My condolences.
Yea they did. But as expected, the deer are slowly coming back on the property and will eventually have to be taken care of.
Day late and a buck short.
“I hit one on a motorcycle at 53 mph. Filthy critters..”
You too? I hit one on my bike, but ‘only’ at somewhere around 47 mph.
Finally. After 9 replies someone asks the important questions!
Such gorgeous creatures, one of my favorite animals...but so dangerous. I live up a long country road and I pray every moment as I’m making my way home. So far in 21 years have hit only one.
