An American Airlines jet made an emergency landing Wednesday after hitting a deer a leaking fuel onto a runway in Charlotte, N.C.
The American Eagle plane was flying 44 passengers and four crew members to Gulfport, Miss., at about 12:15 p.m. when the CRJ-700 struck a deer during takeoff, according to a statement from American Airlines. It immediately returned to the airport.
Before landing, the crew declared an emergency and flew the plane over personnel on the ground to see if there was any damage, according to the Charlotte Observer.
"5320, you are showing you're trailing some kind of vapor or something off the right wing," an air traffic control worker told the flight crew, according to the Observer. "We copy and we understand," the flight crew replied. View image on Twitter
