Many years ago I heard the director of Flashdance pitching the film to the owner of a property where he wanted permission to shoot.
“It’s the story of a young girl who works as a welder in your subway system. But dreams of becoming a Modern Interpretive Dancer.”
To hear it pitched you had to wonder who in the heck would ever go and see a movie like that.
It was Top 5 box office that year.
I imagine a lot of films are less than impressive when pitched.

Been a while, more than a decade.
That’s surprisingly creative, given Hollywood. Usually it’s just “Hey, is it time to reboot [insert superhero movie of your choice] yet?”
Losers.

Fortunately, I had just set the coffee down because it was too hot to drink.
Just like her parents, everything she touched turned to veal.

I don't think people saw it for the story. I think it had more to do with Jennifer Beals' tushy in a Danskin.
I didn't see it when it first came out, but I tried to watch it on Netflix when it was (briefly) on Netflix. Made it through about thirty seconds. Absolute drivel.

All I can tell you about Flashdance is, don’t try and use it to navigate around Pittsburgh. You will get SO lost. They spliced places together that aren’t anywhere near each other.

You’re saying underage drinking and drugs weren’t stupid enough? Or twerking and tokin’ out in public as an adult aren’t stupid enough? Then is as recent as when they were last in Martha’s Vineyard her SS had to shuffle her out of a party that was being raided stupid enough?

I read a critique of “Rocky” that estimated his training “run” in Philly that ended on the art museum steps was about 20 miles.
It wasn't always "hers". The real dancer was "accidently" uncredited in the original release.
And I’d bet that big chip that’s fused to her shoulder didn’t help the porcelain god, either.
No biggie. She’s called a “slush pile reader.” She’s reading thru scripts, picking out a few with story lines worthy of a second look from her superiors.
Probably looking for Lena Dunham-type crap.
I wonder if she is on the casting couch.
Do they do Drug Tests at Weinstein ?
