Many years ago I heard the director of Flashdance pitching the film to the owner of a property where he wanted permission to shoot.
“It’s the story of a young girl who works as a welder in your subway system. But dreams of becoming a Modern Interpretive Dancer.”
To hear it pitched you had to wonder who in the heck would ever go and see a movie like that.
It was Top 5 box office that year.
I imagine a lot of films are less than impressive when pitched.
That’s surprisingly creative, given Hollywood. Usually it’s just “Hey, is it time to reboot [insert superhero movie of your choice] yet?”
Losers.

I don't think people saw it for the story. I think it had more to do with Jennifer Beals' tushy in a Danskin.
I didn't see it when it first came out, but I tried to watch it on Netflix when it was (briefly) on Netflix. Made it through about thirty seconds. Absolute drivel.
