Do not fool yourself about what the aftermath of a defensive shooting is going to be like. Some people have an image in their head thats been put there by watching too much television and bad platitudes from elected officials and spokespersons for various groups. As with anything else, the reality is so much worse than the fantasy.
For instance, most people dont think its entirely possible that their defensive handgun will not only be confiscated by law enforcement, but never returned. Its actually fairly common. Bear in mind that this isnt legal advice and shouldnt be taken as such, but rather a discussion of available information.
After authorities have been called and first responders arrive on the scene, law enforcement will likely process the crime scene and begin asking questions. You may or may not be placed in custody. What is also quite likely is for the gun that you used to dispatch the home invader/robber/whomever will be seized and taken into evidence. There it will remain for the duration of any proceedings, including a trial which can take months, or even years.
Note, though, that this isnt to suggest that police want to deprive people of their property. There is often much more to these things than news reports disclose.

This is true!
yep. I have two M&P 9 Shields.
Nice reliable, accurate carry guns. But price is low enough that I’m not going to cry about losing one if it saves my life. Besides, there is always the Kahr, it would like more time out of the safe.
Or I could beg Mrs Child to loan me her Sig.
That’s the main reason my primary carry weapon is a Glock 23. I initially used a HK USP .40 Compact. Nice pistol, but very expensive to replace. At LE pricing, I can get two Glock 23s for the price of one HK.
VERY NICE !
That is why it is important to have more than one gun you are comfortable with for CCW. I have several and would not trade any vs. my life. I do not have two of the same make, but practice with them all.
“Why are Hks so expensive?”
“Because they’re worth it.”
They steal your stuff.
Sadly, I don’t have it! Still waiting to hear back from Ruger.
Well executed knockoff of a Walther.
Smooth function, once broken in, SA/DA, decocker, decent sights, light, easily maintained, 8/9 round capacity depending on mag and caliber...easily found for around $275.00 in .380 and about $315.00 in 9 mil.
Not a weapon for the "gun snobs", but what the hell do they know, anyway?
But it is one that I won't cry about losing to the system if I have to use it in my defense.
Same here - I was looking at the Solo Crimson Carry. I'd just hate to lose something like that to "the system", so I got a cerakoted Ruger LCP instead, and I can buy another one next week if I have to.
Yeah, but my initial reaction was, "Where could I find another Chantilly P7M8 as nice as mine, nowadays...?"
Get a PA 63 (Walther PPK clone) Great price and cheap anmo.
That a great reason to buy That second
Piece!
You’d think the mod would have enough brains just to delete the image but Oh no, they’ve got to wipe the whole friggin thread. How come there’s more horeses asses that there is horses?
They are all my favorites!!!
That's why we all have replacements, and we can replace those as well.
The individual reply getting deleted is the usual recourse.
How come theres more horeses asses that there is horses?
'Cause there are two cheeks per ass. LOL
I really like the Kimber pieces.
I’ve shot Nighthawks, Les Baers, Ed Bowns, Springfield Customs, but using/losing one of those $5-7-9k+ pieces in a shooting confiscation, would be a seriously bad thing. Better to save that hardware for special days at the range.
If your LCP has a mag disconnect there may be a youtube showijg how to remove it.
Took me about 15 minutes on my LC9.
Every man need 4 pistols. Two revolvers and two semi autos.
One small, and one full sized of each.
Spend the $2500 and just do it.
