Was in the 101st in 1967 and they flew us from Ft. Campbell parked us in an airport hangar in the Detroit area, but we were never called into the riot area.
It is a direct violation of law to use an active duty unit against a US population.

There were more people killed in Chicago in the last 3 days than in Charlotte. Is he moving troops there?

Finally, a voice of sanity. This makes perfect sense -- it avoids putting a target on a uniform back, and avoids negative press if someone out of uniform inadvertently finds themselves in the middle of rioting. It wouldn't end well for the rioters. :-)

It’s illegal to use Marines for riot control on U.S. soil. That’s what the National Guard is for. If this was actually true, it would be more likely they would fly somewhere overseas for a contingency.

When I was in it would have been a fair accompli that they would refuse to fire upon the American people. Training heavily emphasized what was and was not a lawful order. Many examples from previous conflicts were discussed, and the non existence of the “just following orders” defence at the Nueremberg trials was lauded.

Although the Navy and Marine Corps are not included in the act, they were made subject to it by DoD Regulation (32 C.F.R. Section 213.2, 1992)

The Marine Corps will never want them to get involved with the local civvy population.
