Did Trump support the Iraq war before he was totally against it?
What is the Truth.
Hannity said the big deal last night was Hillary’s oops on the Iraq war. She said it was a mistake, all the dead and maimed take note, she promises to learn from her mistakes.
I guess so is not much of an endorsement
Look up trumps exact quote for yourself
He said something very diffident about supporting the war and then added that we should have done it right the first time, ( desert storm which left saddam in power with his army)
which was probably the viewpoint of 90% of Americans of all parties
Once the invasion actually occurred and people got a better look at the real bush doctrine and the results- trump was among the first and most prominent to back away
If you have listened to Trumps experience, he was against it and then shared that he was contacted by the Bush admin.
“Even I supported the Iraq war, and now see the utter folly of starting it.”
Deposing Saddam was worth doing. Hanging around for years and years was not.
Let be honest ...We supported the war... and I recall clearly Trump did not and was busting on Bush... and Trump was not popular here in FR at that time because of it
So it would be simple to go back through freerepublic at that time about Trump and find the posts...

Who cares? Private citizen Trump had no vote in the war either way. I don’t know what his personal opinion was on it... I don’t care.

Trump was thinking clearer than we were.
Then again, we didn’t know that Bush was a globalist shill at the time.
2) In 2004 2002 when he was on the Howard Stern show, he had half-hearted support saying, I guess so.
It was even BEFORE the invasion.
No! He has in no position to vote for it, or “support” it.
OTOH Sen. Hillary voted for it.
I also recall Pres. Clinton wanting to attack Iraq earlier so he beat the drums of war, and sent Sandy Burger and Madeline Albright to Ohio State University. The anti-war students shouted them off the stage! War canceled. lol
This is why I hate the media with every fiber of my being.
Trump's opinion was just that, an opinion.
He gave lukewarm at best support if you want to call it that, prior to the invasion.
The REAL questions should be directed at Hillary.
She had access to all kinds of classified information at the time, and voted FOR the war.
Now she calls it a "mistake".
OK, Hillary, explain the "mistake".
The war, or your vote for it.
Whatever Trump thought is irrelevant.
Obama rode the tide of "It was all a mistake to go into Iraq in the first place", all the way to the WH.
And to make matters worse, he pulled the troops out, declared victory, and claimed that he had no choice, because of Bush's SOFA timeline.
He is the POTUS.
He could have just as easily said that circumstances have changed, and we need to finish the job.
In retrospect, pulling all of our men out WAS a mistake.
We will debate until the end of time whether the war was a mistake, but pulling out and leaving a vacuum for ISIS to fill was DEFINITELY a mistake.
Once you have engaged, you stay until there is complete victory.
Hell, we still have forces in Germany 60 years after WWII.
I guess so is hardly a ringing endorsement
Deposing Saddam was the start of dominoes falling..Iraq then Egypt, then Yemen, then Libya and now Syria.
If one is thinking strategically, North Korea is threatening to send nuclear laden missiles to United States. Saddam never threatened to attack US. Iran calls United States the great Satan. Saddam was not interested in destroying United States. Saddam was keeping the jihadists under control with an iron fist. By your logic, why we do not depose the N. Korean dictator who is directly threatening us?
What was the point in removing Saddam from Kuwait? Saddam was not going to drink Kuwaiti oil. What difference does it make (to borrow Hilliary’s phrase) if we buy oil from Kuwaiti sheikhs or Iraqi dictators?
This mis-adventure in middle-east wars has cost us TRILLIONS with BORROWED money from China, and thousands of young American soldiers killed or maimed. We have wounded veterans committing suicide and receiving bad health care. Only fools indulge in foreign wars with BORROWED money. Especially when totally unnecessary.
It’s irrelevant as to what Trump’s thoughts were about the Iraq War. Hillary voted for it. Case closed. Perhaps the Progressive Left should be more worried about Hillary’s violations of National Security. BTW I agree with you.
Deposing Saddam was the start of dominoes falling..Iraq then Egypt, then Yemen, then Libya and now Syria.
It seems to me that Rotten Cankles and Obunghole are responsible for those others. Ive seen the domino effect, and it didnt look like that.
Saddam never threatened to attack US.
You dont remember the terrorist training camps he operated? The UN sanctions repeatedly violated? The way he was deceiving UN oversight of his nuclear program?
Saddam was not interested in destroying United States. Saddam was keeping the jihadists under control with an iron fist.
I dont know what your sources are for that.
By your logic, why we do not depose the N. Korean dictator who is directly threatening us?
Because of what the Chinese did the last time US troops were on the Yalu. IOW, cowardice.
What was the point in removing Saddam from Kuwait?
All other things being equal, opposing evil is usually the right thing to do. Further, he had his eye on Saudi Arabia.
What difference does it make (to borrow Hilliarys phrase) if we buy oil from Kuwaiti sheikhs or Iraqi dictators?
Really? Morality just doesnt enter into it? You would have us stand by while the strong ravage the weak, and then buy the oil they stole? We have laws against receiving stolen property because it is morally wrong.
This mis-adventure in middle-east wars has cost us TRILLIONS with BORROWED money from China, and thousands of young American soldiers killed or maimed.
I did say we should have come home after Saddam was dead.
We have wounded veterans committing suicide and receiving bad health care.
Tell me about it. If I didnt have family, I would get to know some heroin addicts so I would have access to pain relief.
Only fools indulge in foreign wars with BORROWED money.
Sometimes its necessary.
Especially when totally unnecessary.
There are a couple of ways to look at it.
1. It was a bad idea to do it.
2. It was a bad idea to screw it up.
After the chair-warmers in Washington goon everything up with their arrogance and ignorance, it seems to look to a lot of people as though a thing shouldnt have been done. Sometimes the problem was not in doing it, but in doing it wrong.
Almost everyone on this forum supported the war.
Replace the Washington Post "reporters" with the entire Media. :)
I get the feeling you have never lived outside of United States. That could explain your lack of understanding of the middle-east.
The entire blame for the Iraq debacle does not lie with Obama. He gets only 25% of the blame for hasty withdrawal. The other 75% lies on shoulders of George W Bush. The simple reason is Iraq was primed for chaos as soon as American military left Iraq. Americans would never tolerate coffins draped in American flag coming year after year from Iraq.
Even more brutal fact is that US Treasury is bankrupt and we just do not have the money to fight prolonged wars. Iraq and the middle-east was destined to end up in chaos and under the control of jihadists the moment Bush invaded Iraq.
The results are your best proof. We can argue until we are blue in the face, but actual results are always the correct answer.
