On the issue of Trump's rejection of the Iraq War:Stern: "Are you for invading Iraq?"
Trump: "Yeah, I guess so. I wish the first time it was done correctly."
NOTICE that Stern says invadING. In other words, it had NOT happened YET.
This is PRIOR to the war being launched, and Trump clearly does not give a solid "yes" answer. He gives an equivocating answer "I guess so." And THEN he offers a complaint. This is NOT a man in support of launching that war.
It is entirely likely that he solidified these anti-war sentiments prior to the launch of the war. Later, he clearly was opposed in 2004.
Also note that he clearly was not a politician but was a private citizen. No one was inquiring daily of his opinion, nor was he casting votes.
Let me note that I was clearly in favor of taking out Saddam Hussein at the time. I still believe that he had a robust WMD program that could retool in an instant.
Yet, I opposed the nation rebuilding part early on. I wanted Saddam dead, Iraq's chemical capabilities destroyed, and any found chemicals destroyed. (They still haven't done that.)
At that point, we should have left their nation to them and warned them of similar future consequences for the same thing.

Well, there IS that...
Yes. And he wasn’t even a politician. That should be noted. People weren’t beating his door down to get his opinion on these things.
I imagine his response “I guess so” was spur of the moment by a private citizen who was on Howard Stern as a glitterati guest and not as a political commentator or a politician.
Thanks, Albion.
He definitely was for pulling out and didn’t support the post-war. All they have shown is him saying “Yeah, I guess so,” to Howard Stern who was a big supporter of the war. Trump also may not have wanted to debate it, since it was the anniversary of 9/11.
A lot of private citizens (me included) were at first for the war, hoping it would be ‘finished’ this time, but then came out against it.
Simple. Trump says he was against the war.
THERE. Right from the horses mouth (and MIND)
Only Trump knows his own mind. If he says he was against the war, then he was against the war.
If he said otherwise in order to support the president or support our troops during wartime, that is totally understandable and not inconsistent with being against the war. In fact it would be admirable. (Ted Cruz take note)
“Just ‘cause I said it, don’t mean that I meant it,
Just ‘cause you heard it”

I was for it. Most of the people on FR at the time were for it. Most of the country t the time, Dems and GOP were for it.
When asked by Howard Stern he said, I guess so. Whoopdedoo.
Listen to his speech today - he went through all the times, dates & sources where he opposed the war. Very early on he was in opposition.
I remember at the time being ticked off at him because he kept going around saying how it was a bad idea and that we should never have gone in. This, while troops were there and dying for the cause.
So I’m not going to believe anything Hillary claims until shown positive proof. Because the way I remember it, he was as much opposed to the war as Code Pink.
I was all for the invasion, but leaving the country without a FOB, not so much.
I know for sure that Hillary Clinton - who was a Senator from NY and Member of the Armed Services Committee supported it.
“He has said all along that once we were in the war we should have ensured total victory.”

I think that’s pretty much what a lot of us thought. If you get into a fight make damn sure you win it.
He was right on Brexit:-) At least that’s a current event.
It shouldn’t matter, he was a private citizen with an opinion at the time. He didn’t vote on anything, his thoughts on the matter had no impact on anyone or anything. Hillary was a sitting US senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee, her opinion and therefore her vote helped put the war wheels in motion.
Waitaminit... and Trump gave this half-hearted “endorsement” around a 9/11 anniversary.
That makes it truly ridiculous how much the Dems are trying to blow this up.
I really, really, intensely don’t care what Trump said or thought about invading Iraq in 2002 and anyone who wants to try and catch Trump in a lie over this is obviously for Clinton.
Go Trump!
