Have You Lost Friends Over This Election?
Self | 08-25-2016 | Captain Peter Blood

This morning as I was out running errands I happen to tune into The Mike Gallagher Show and his topic was have you lost friends in this election, Liberal friends, etc. because of your support for Donald Trump.

Gallagher related that he had, and it was a person formally who supported Trump but now will just sit at home and not vote at all regardless of the dangers of a Hillary Presidency.

Well that hit home for me. Last night I had had enough of my Facebook account and closed it. I have a number of friends on there that regardless of the corruption being exposed will not listen to any cogent or logical reasoning on not voting for her.

I have debated, offered documentation and facts to those I have engaged and yet nothing seems to deter these people and on top of that I am called names and accused if all manner of things not true.

I have always tried to be careful and deliberate on whom I would friend on Facebook, but of course you have people you have known since grade school or college you have kept in touch with and now you find out what they think and what you think politically are 180 degrees off.

The last straw was last night with a couple of people who on the surface would seem to know better and yet they are willing to settle for a criminal and have little interest in getting to the truth. That was it for me and I promptly closed my account.

Depending on the election results I may or may not revisit Facebook on November 9th.

I am to the point that if Trump does not win I am not sure whether I will ever vote again. I am not sure there will be another Republican candidate that can or will ever win again after four to eight years on more Democrats, Will there be anything left to really salvage after all the damage that will be done????

Only God knows and I pray almost everyday for this country and it's future.

I don’t allow liberals into my personal life - so no.

Not at all. Those kind of friends fell away about twenty five years ago in the first Bush vs. Clinton election.

My general rule of thumb is that as soon as I find out that an acquaintance is a lib then I immediately dissociate myself from them because they are no longer ‘friends’. They became immediate enemies when they exposed their ignorance.

As far as the election goes, if HRC would miraculously ‘win’ then I had considered Costa Rica or Australia but both are now too socialistic. Then I thought about New Zealand but New Zealand, too, is a commonwealth of socialist England.

After all is said and done I shall have to find a place in this country waaaaaaaaay back in the woods where the mushrooms grow and hope that it is far enough away from the socialist stench.

Now that you have some time freed up :), take all your energy & fight and get onto your local area paper/tv/radio station comment sections under articles (anonymously).
Bring your message to your town.
You'll get the same push-back in these comment sections but others are reading that never post...and will learn.

Medved is not a conservative, I listened to him some years ago after Obama was elected and Medved could not wrap his mind around the face that Obama was a Closet Marxist and a Muslim. Will not listen to him. Gave up on Levin, Rush and a number of others.

I have been listening to Michael Savage lately and he is like a breath of fresh air and ordered his new book to read.

I have discussed this election less with friends and acquaintances than any in my memory. People are very polarized, but like me are mostly declining to talk about it. The only people who aren’t already onboard willing to discuss Trump rationally have been Sanders supporters, in my exposure.

Trump won my state, NC, handily, but very few signs. Hillary also won handily, with signs practically nonexistent outside of university settings. There were load of Sanders signs and bumper stickers in those same areas and even beyond into more reality-based environments.

Democrat libtards leave me alone. I have a FUBO circle on the bumper of my vehicle and am a CCW. I'm living in a rural area and look forward to moving an even more rural area.

I don’t talk politics on Facebook. I see that as a place for kid pictures and cute kitten videos

I’ve ‘demoted’ several FB Friends to Acquaintance and stopped following them. When I post I post to “Friends except Acquaintances”. Only way they can see my posts is to visit my page. If they do that, it’s their own d@mn fault.

All my liberal friends are from hobby-oriented clubs. We basically agree not to talk politics. They are no problem.

Most of my extended family is pretty far left. Likewise, politics is generally not discussed. In fact, I recently attended a family event that was a memorial service for a deceased uncle who was one of the leading communists (for lack of a better word) in Western Colorado. Politics never came up.

On the other hand, most of the friends I know from my political activities are the very insiders I am campaigning against in my activities in support of 1) Donald Trump and 2) a real presidential primary. With respect to the topic of this thread, the latter is the most significant. At a recent public hearing on real presidential primaries, we spoke on opposite sides of the issue. This has been simmering for four years; and I think the bridges can probably be considered burned at this point. Though I only implied it very indirectly, my presentation at the public forum was my farewell speech to them.

I don't Facebook.
People ARE out of touch - AND these people vote.
Post on your local media outlet sites in the comment sections.

His position on Trump etc has been one of the biggest surprises and disappointments of this election

My friends on Facebook have apocalyptic visions regarding Trump. It’s embarrassing and depressing to see the hyperbole expressed by Christians, comparing this election to Hitler in 1933, and comparing Trump voters to Germans who closed their eyes.

Aside from the excesses of emotion, people don’t seem to understand that Trump would face a Congress who hates him far more than it does Obama. If he were to go all apocalypse Congress would gleefully shut him down, in contrast to their treatment of Obama’s unlawful orders.

I’ve quit commenting and just occasionally go online to see the latest blather.

Yes

A Close friend of mine and I got into a screaming, raging, hissy fit. To a significant degree the fault was mine. This Election has been very caustic

Agreed. The divide came 8 years ago. That being said, had HRC been the nominee in ‘08, my guess is divide would still have occurred.

I have a friend who is conservative, but most of his family is liberal. Before ‘08, they could discuss politics civilly. But now, they don’t.

I quit my job at a defense contractor last year because it had become untenable, left wing politics going from “we social engineer this far for preference in federal contracts” to “we have to be far left wing for the comfort of X groups, the rest of you go along to keep your jobs”. The constant “diversity minutes” in every meeting, company newsletters, and especially LBGT to the point of insanity was the last straw though I waited until we paid off the mortgage to quit. I should never have to sit through a presentation of “my husband left me for a man, support me, no, don’t sympathy, just validate him and tell me I’m good for supporting his decision”.
One woman publicly asked for advice of her husband wanting to cheat with men on the side but keep the marriage together due to four children under the age of ten. I said I could understand tolerating adultery no matter with whom for the sake of the marriage, but I could refer her to a good divorce attorney if she wanted. I was reported to HR, who said my answer was gender neutral so not homophobic but adultery was a judgmental term and my statement was unacceptable. I said the answer was in response to her public question - and if my answer was wrong, so was her bringing up the topic in public discussion. There were numerous other cases of this, LBGT paraded around, including sexual harassment by a mentally ill man in a dress of women. If I hadn’t been a woman with clearance, they’d have fired me sooner. Instead, upped the work load while demerits took away raise and then performance sharing bonus.
When I told them I was leaving, my boss wasn’t surprised. What surprised him was that I said it was a pay cut, not a pay increase, but this job wouldn’t involve their current demands for Sunday morning outage support, Thursday night maintenance windows, and working every other Friday a 12 hour shift (It was IT)

Where I am now doesn’t care if I listen to Michael Savage or Sargon of Akkad on low volume, as long as I can pause it to take customer calls for tech support.

And I have far more flexibility to work from home, which eliminated childcare this summer. That sort of thing offsets the pay cut. And the sanity of the environment allows me to avoid most of the political BS that would only be worse now.

I have had friendships shifted to “acquaintance” due to politics. Had to talk to my oldest about why we’re seeing certain children less for playdates, due to their parents being far left. And we’re inviting over our “tribe” much more often.

Connect more strongly with your tribe, inviting people who agree with you for dinner, barbecues, playdates. For my children, as long as there is a similar stream of socialization, WHO matters much less to them.

I am sure I have offended a few people on Facebook, but in part that was my intention...to get in their liberal faces a bit and confront them with the truth about their party and their nominee. I never call them stupid or foolish, rather I just try to call into question who they are supporting.

I lived in Seattle when Medved started at KVI radio back in the 1990’s. I actually talked with him at length at a KVI picnic one day. Somehow we found ourselves waiting for something at an abandoned picnic table away from the crowd. I’ve believed, for many years, that whether I agree with him or not, he’s very smart and you spar with him at your peril.

But he lost me with his early uber support of Romney and it was cemented in the last few months. It’s not just what he believes that is the problem. It is the reasons he gives.

He seems to be politically pragmatic at all costs. In a way, he’s like Dagney Taggart in Atlas Shrugged, always willing to roll with the punches the government throws, never stopping to think that a line has been crossed and he is part of the problem.

It’s as though, if this were the Titanic, he would drown while bailing water off the top deck because the company is sending a ship that will be here any minute.
