I lived in Seattle when Medved started at KVI radio back in the 1990’s. I actually talked with him at length at a KVI picnic one day. Somehow we found ourselves waiting for something at an abandoned picnic table away from the crowd. I’ve believed, for many years, that whether I agree with him or not, he’s very smart and you spar with him at your peril.

But he lost me with his early uber support of Romney and it was cemented in the last few months. It’s not just what he believes that is the problem. It is the reasons he gives.

He seems to be politically pragmatic at all costs. In a way, he’s like Dagney Taggart in Atlas Shrugged, always willing to roll with the punches the government throws, never stopping to think that a line has been crossed and he is part of the problem.

It’s as though, if this were the Titanic, he would drown while bailing water off the top deck because the company is sending a ship that will be here any minute.

Medved was essentially a Communist back in his college days and the years soon afterwards. Hanoi benefited from his ‘anti-war’ activism, and he went on to work for Red Ron Dellums, the hardest-Left of Democrats at the time. There is nothing particularly patriotic or admirable about Michael Medved, ever the opportunist. His eventual drift over to neoconservatism coincided with the epiphany that his comrades on the Left were also supporting the destruction of Israel, which meant that his parents and brother were at risk.
