Great Pyramid of Giza Is Slightly Lopsided

The Great Pyramid of Giza may be a Wonder of the Ancient World, but it's not perfect: Its base is a little lopsided because its builders made a teensy mistake when constructing it, new research reveals.

The west side of the pyramid is slightly longer than the east side, scientists have found. Although the difference is very slight, it's enough that a modern-day research team, led by engineer Glen Dash and Egyptologist Mark Lehner, was able to detect the small flaw in a new measuring project.

"The base is not quite square," Dash said. The project is being carried out by the Glen Dash Research Foundation, led by Dash, and Ancient Egypt Research Associates (AERA), led by Lehner. AERA has been mapping and excavating the Giza plateau for about 30 years. [Photos: Amazing Discoveries at Egypt's Giza Pyramids]

It would’ve measured perfectly square were it not for the disintegration of the shoe molding.

These nit pickers will NEVER do anything greater or longer lasting. They might as well blame it on CAGW.

And only be off a few inches...

Well, that’s true. But on the other hand, they’ve provided some new facts ... well, estimates ... for interested people to discuss.

‘if the pyramid starts learning’

If the pyramid starts *learning*, they’ll make a lot more than a tourist attraction out of it.

The school teachers liked it so much they asked to keep it on display in the front office. AFAIK, it’s still there, 20 years later...................

Some caulk and dry wall mud will smooth that right out...

I don't know - it's 5 inches. Better rip some 2X6s down to 4 1/2 and put some T1-11's over them.

Because if it’s a “project”, you can get someone else to fund it.

Were are the specs for the pyramids so we can tell if they were built within the standards. What are the Fed HUD standards for pyramids?

If you average all four sides = 755.8088 ft

the variance of each side vs the average is respectively, 0.0032%, 0.0285%, 0.0328%, 0.0011%

I would not want to bet that my house is more exact than that, and I had super builder that I would use again immediately if ever needed!

Whenever I make a little mistake on one of my home improvement projects (tiling, wood floors, hanging cabinets, etc...) I either call it an “asshole detector” because whoever points out my mistake is an asshole -OR- I say that I did it on purpose because I wanted everyone to know it was a DIY and that I didn’t pay professionals to do it.
