Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia reported dead
The Dallas Morning News ^ | 2/13/2016 | Julie Fancher

Posted on 02/13/2016 2:29:21 PM PST by ALASKA

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, the San Antonio-Express News reported.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa, the paper reported.

According to a report, Scalia, an associate justice, arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI were involved in the investigation, the paper reported.

A federal official who asked not to be named told the paper there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes.

Scalia, the longest serving justice on the Court, was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan. He was the first Italian-American justice.

Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement confirming Scalia’s death and calling him a “man of God, a patriot, and an unwavering defender of the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

“He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution,” the statement said. “His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called Scalia a “champion of our liberties and a stalwart defender of the Constitution.”

BTW this just made Cruz ABSOLUTELY UN-ELECTABLE if he was to be nominated Grayson would now win in the Court. Also Democrats would be scared of a President Cruz picking SCJ and turn out like never before. This has effectively end Cruz’s campaign.

This is a disaster. The Republicans in the Senate have to filibuster ANY leftist that Obama may nominate to the vacancy until after the inauguration of a new President.

McConnell and the rest of the GOP House of Lords will bend over like a cheap whore to approve Obama’s choice saying, “The President deserves to have his choice approved.”

Agreed - at this point - who cares how much it damages the future political process. Certainly on their own will, the Republicans will not do this, but if conservatives can force them into it kicking and screaming ... then possible.

It’s true. TX governor announced it a little while ago and our dogs started screeching howling. Very strange.

Prayers for the Scalia family. Prayers for the US. This is the end of the US. They Kenyan will now have his chance to appoint, what is this the 3rd?, anti-gun abortion gay liberal.

I refuse to believe it was natural causes. The Terrorist in Chief said he was going to step things up this SUPPOSED last year and it looks like he’s pulling out all the stops.

Good thing Republicans now control the Senate, which has to confirm any SC nominee.

Hahahahaha! They will fold like cheap suit, as always.

We’ll miss Antonin more than any of the Supremes, but the positive is the attention which will be focused on the candidates and their picks before the bulk of the votes are cast for the primaries.

Now they’ve got to give us some answers, leanings, favorites and we’ll learn some tendencies. This issue is of one the few that makes me nervous about Donald.

If the GOP approves anyone before january ‘17, the last remaining firewall to (legal) gun confiscation will be gone.

RIP Justice Scalia.

The Senate needs a iron set of balls, immediately. The NY Times will write nasty things about them if they resist approval, and I don't know that they'll be able to withstand such pressure.

Whoops.
My parents honeymooned there back in the day.

You can’t hunt there either although there are tons of deer.

Goodbye Republic. I blame all those “conservatives” who refused to vote in 2012.

I just won’t hold my nose anymore.

You sunk any chances of a recovery of the United States as founded.

Romney wouldn’t have appointed a conservative.

I said, Chances of a recovery. *spit*

What a cruel, heartless statement. His sister is too old to be appointed and he isn’t president anyway. You Cruzobts can’t even be respectful when a great jurist passes away.

Eau contraire’’’....This has locked the nomination for Cruz who would nominate rock solids, vs. some of the others who will shoot themselves in the foot with this issue.

I say Cruz would be more beneficial as a new Supreme Court nominee. Trump could use Jeff Sessions as a VP and Crux appointment as first decree in office.

If Cruz gets on the ballot, Hillary will play the NBC standing card and have the election tied up for who knows how long. The usurper said he’d be in office 10 years so he might get that long. He’ll be pushing the Senate to approve whatever sicko liberal he puts up and they, as usual, will cave just to get on with the election. Once The Terrorists in Chief gets his way, AGAIN, they’ll have a full court and will proceed with declaring Cruz ineligible and crowning Hillary. She’ll let the Kenyan have his time in the UN and right before her first term is up, as a final death blow to the US, she’ll appoint him to SCOTUS.

Today, with Scalia’s passing, their goal is even closer.

A conservative hero just died, and all you can think to do is search for an angle that benefits Trump. Despicable. Really.
